Cold weather engine "noise"???
I noticed a "new" engine noise while driving my 993 this afternoon. I've owned the car a short time and today is the first time that I've had it out when the air temp was in the low 30's. The engine produced a high-pitched whine that would emulate RPM changes. The engine warmed but the whine remained. The noise seemed to be localized at the flywheel. Any idea's on what is going on? The noise pitch would rise as RPMs increased, and drop to virtually nothing at idle. Thanks.

Three Wheelin'
I would have suggest to check the little plastic wheel "running" on the alternator belt in the engine comparment. But if you're sure it's at the fly wheel level...no idea, sorry.

do not touch the alternator belt sensor with the engine running.
just locate it with the engine off, and check after if the noise is from there.
