Default Buried treasure:how many 959's are there in the Bahamas? The answer may surprise you.

I drive by a gated seaside house everyday. It has an open garage (always) with a white car under a white cover (always) that exposes the front of what I assumed to be a white 993.

I was informed today that it is in fact a 959.

I think the owner is Chris Blackwell of Bob Marley/Island Records fame.

The car has not moved in at least 2 years possibly longer. What are the chances of it starting sitting for this long, by the ocean no less?

I thought that Chris lived or at least owns property in Jamaica? He owns the property that one of the early Bond films was shot on--Goldfinger I believe.

It does seem like buried treasure somehow- or as close as you get these days around here.

I'm going to drive in there when the gate is open sometime. He's a shy guy I've heard but perhaps if I show up in a run 'o the mill C4S, it will get me a quick look.

On the otherhand, maybe I'll take my 4 year old son with me as insurance- people are generally nicer to you in front of your kids.

Interesting; I wonder how many Porsches there are in Nassau?
I keep asking myself - a Porsche in Nassau? Where do you drive it (although the same can be said about eastern MA).
Must have been fun back in the days of Nassau Speed Week, though.

There are about 4 I think:

The Attorney General (she) drives a boxter
I've seen a red 964 but not recently
This 959.
And me.

A few Cayennes- do they count?? (sorry).

As far as driving here is concerned, I did a post recently about "My Own Private Targo Florio"- check it out.

At least tell him to close the garage and keep it air conditioned (or othervise de-humified)!

When I was in Callas Rennsport last week, Tom mentioned they service 4 959's. 4! I remember when I was a kid, the sole reason to be insanely, absurdly wealthy was so you could be like Bill Gates and have one of two undriveable 959's in the US. Now, apparently, there are between 20 to 30. How time flies...

This car is going to need major help after so long a downtime. If someone tries to turn it over it could ruin the engine in an instant. The turbos are likely dry as well and could seize.

I'm not intimate with the 959 powerplant but I recall there's iron in there:
2Fe + 3H2O = Fe2O3 + 3H2

Fe203 = RUST!

The 959 is an amazing car but is plagued by problems from not being driven regularly. I will not expand on this because I am waiting for someone to ask for this to be moved to the 959 area.
