I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but as the owner of a 72 "long hood", prior owner of a 996, and new owner of a 98 993 Targa, I have to say the 993 is the best car Porsche has made. I've checked out and driven 997s too and do like them, I am especially into their looks, and they've certainly raised the bar on interior quality over the "built to price" of the 996. But my "new" 993 beats both 996s and 997s hands down for looks, quality, overall feel. Sure its not ultimately as fast on track as the newer ones, but in regular conditions thats a moot point.
You can't beat the old school greenhouse of the 993 and the "rifle bolt" clack when the doors close says it all--something the 996s and 997s simply do not have. Over the years I've switched and changed cars quite often but I really think this one is going to be a keeper for a long time. I can't believe I didn't get into one earlier...
Cheers,
Steve

Yes... the cayman is ugly. Will I be beaten with a stick for saying this? The 997 butt is too high which makes it look chunky, not graceful, from the rear 3/4 view... I think that's what makes the rear fenders look unimpressive.

Here's a couple of pics of my 993 with a 997 C4S. Excuse my crooked licence plate (long story but it's fixed now)
The 997 looks better than the 996 C4S, but despite these pics not showing my car off to it's best, the 993 still appeals to me more.
