How much should a 993 clutch job cost?
Just found out that one of my brokers also has a '96 C2 and then he started lamenting that the $3k estimate he got from an indy shop for a new clutch was way too much. Since I was only charged $110 labor for my clutch job, while a shop had the engine out for other stuff and they let me source the parts for about $1200, I don't know what this job really costs. I would think it's under $2k, since you can actually remove the tranny without removing the engine, thereby not needing an alignment afterwards.

if the $3k includes the parts, its probably retail for the parts and $150 per hour labor rate is my guess and going by chilton book on labor time

I figured 8-10 hrs. max and the very best shop around here charges $104 an hr. LWF is cheaper than a new DMF and I recommended he get that upgrade. So I would think it should be around $2k total.

I had to change mine due to slipping about five months ago @ 71K mi.
I did it in about 8 hrs.,trans drop only.I do not have a lift so I had to raise the car high enough to work on the car"sitting on my butt".You have to make sure the car is PROPERLY secured before you atempt to do any work on the car especially in that position.
Upon inspection I found that the disk was the culprit(worn out).I changed the disk ,throw-out bearing and fork bearings.It cost me about $280.
Since than I put about 3k mi on the car everything works flawless.Life is good!

I just bought a Sasch clutch kit $464 , OEM flywheel $839.34 plus $27.10 for bolts .
The only problem with tranny is the syncro can`t downshift from second to first until at a complete stop or otherwise risk of grinding .
So i do not know if I will have to replace everything (clutch n flywheel) . If i need to I atleast have the part already otherwise the parts here (Vancouver) from the shop would cost more like $2500 oppose to $1325 US

I dont see any yikes in the cost. I had a rear seal leak anyway so doing the flywheel and clutch upgrade only seemed like the logical thing to do. I dont recall if a C2 and C4 is different in the way either the transmission and engine has to be removed (or if it has to be removed on a C2???) A few hundred $$$ either way wouldnt have made me think any different. I have a very knowledgible and experienced mechanic worked on my car. I dont mind paying for quality work. After all, if you were going to have heart surgery, would you want a rookie doing it if it cost less?
Exact costs for C4:
Rear Seal-$28.99
10 quarts of 15w50 oil $99 (yea, dont even say anything)=$99.90
Flywheel and clutch kit-$1870.00
Labor $1099.46
Total=$3098.35
