Default Cupholder for 993 (VW passat solution) where can I buy

Okay I have read a bunch of old search threads that tell me a good solution for a 993 cup holder is the VW Passat cupholder and somebody even put in a part number and a website vwparts.com. Unfortunately, the site doesn't work and when I called a dealer they wanted $120!!! Does anyone either have a site where they have been able to order this or a better cupholder?

It's for my wife's C4S, I already tried to explain that it doesn't have a cupholder because it shouldn't have coffee in it.....but, it's her car, I lost the conflict. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks!

Have had good luck with http://www.clairparts.com

So what's the part number?

Edit: 3A1 862 531 01C

This one? http://files.automotiveforums.com/up...5cupholder.jpg

Lots of good solutions here, too: http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/competitors.html

I was thinking of this one--folds out like the Passat one, but seems sturdier: http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/fischercupholder.html

Not sure exactly where you would mount it.

Default Cup holder

I think all 993 owners revisit this... after driving my C4 for a year and looking at all the options (and the nostalgia of listennig to a decent cassette player wore off), I opted for the leather cup holder that replaces the cassette/cd tray at the end of the transmission cover between the seats. It is typically on ebay and only takes a 5 minutes to swap. I have mine in for a week and have already put it to use 4 to 5 times. No relation to whomever makes this item.

my vote goes for the one that attraches to the seat runner - made by a chap from Calif - he sells them on ebay and also has a website - Incentiva, Inventiva, Conceptiva ???
Its made from billet steel and looks OEM.
Perfect. dont buy any other cup holder. No afilliation etc........

Thumbs up Inventiva Concept Cup Holder Rules!

I just got the inventiva concept and it's great!

Easy to install and works like a charm.

Probably the best mounting location for an aftermarket cup holder.

Made of solid steel and big enough for anything you want.

Highly recommend it!

The inventiva one came with my car. I tried it and took it out. I didn't like it because it allows the drink to move around too much. Since it's not adjustable, a bottle of water would move back and forth quite a bit. Since it mounts close to the floor and doesn't retain the bottom in any way, a full bottle would pop out under hard cornering and fly around the footwell.

IMO, a good cupholder has a few key characteristics:
1) Most important, it must retain the cup/can/bottle no matter what. It's a Porsche, dammit, and sometimes bumps, crests and corners happen.
2) It should adjust within reasonable limits to accomodate different diameters tightly. Not necessarily a Big Gulp, but anything from a 7oz Evian to a 20oz soda should fit snugly.
3) The main support should be above the cg of the drink. This seems obvious, but some of the smaller ones only go up a couple of inches. One hard corner and it's gone.
4) It should support/constrain the bottom of the drink. Non-skid rubber at least, some sort of lip or rim is better. Without this the drink can flop back and forth.
