confirm 993 flasher relay location? intermittent signal/flasher assistance
#1
Mystery solved: intermittent signal/flasher assistance
mystery solved: It turns out that the prior owner had installed a glass sensor, which grounded out, and in the process, shorted/fried the alarm control unit.
It's replaced, and the ghosts have been busted!
A word of caution, I've since met 2 other owners who have had similar corruption issues with aftermarket mods when tapping off the alarm control unit circuit...
Good to have my blinkers back!

Original post:
When a window switch failed recently, the green flasher indicators
would sputter on and off.
I replaced the switch but:
The flickering (indicators and external bulbs) still happens randomly. Even after the car is turned off, sometimes:
-the exterior amber corners come on, (not blinking)
-and the flasher arrows on the dash come on (not blinking)
Need your help in troubleshooting the problem... tried search for 993 issue to no avail.
Short/Relay/Switch?
I'll take all input and try it until we get there.

Hmmm, not sure that your window switch has anything to do with this. . . . but see if your hazard flasher switch works. See if the flashers turn on and off like they're supposed to, make sure its not stuck, jiggle the wires that go into it, etc. I have never personally seen a problem w/ this switch on 993s, but on older 911s they are a fairly common thing to go bad. They will be stuck on/off, or contacts/terminals will be burnt up and do weird stuff. Unfortunately its not quite as easy to get to the wires/pop it out on 993 as in old 911s . . . Also verify that your regular turn signals work properly. Also, I wonder if you have some sort of aftermarket alarm or something . . . well hope this helps a bit anyway, good luck.

hey froogle ~ the actual bulbs may be going (the sputtering thing has me puzzled though) makes me almost think that ol' "imobilizer malfunction" may be rearing it's ugly head... (but you're 'my95) & those don't have it right?
was there some kind of elec. short that made the window switch fail? or did it simply stop working? may need to trace... give anyone a "jump" recently???

thanks for the input thus far...
hazard switch works, including indicators and outside lights
no immobilizer ('95)
turn stalk works including indicators and outside lights
it must be a short somewhere...
other models seem to have a flasher relay which goes bad and does something similar? Is there a flasher relay in the 993? where?
thanks!

Flasher relay should be in the central electric box up front w/ all the other relays and the fuses. Turn on the hazard lights or the blinker and trace the clicking sound and you'll find it . . .

OK, no flasher relay in the relay/fuse box.
Is it in the center console tunnel, or behind the fuel gauge under the dash? Search mentions both.
The the console "heartbeats" when switches are on, down by the lower leg side area on both sides, but not easy access if this is in fact where the relay is.
I see conflicting reports of where this is located though, and don't want to start digging around without confirmation of location.
Thanks

found it, it's in the little compartment on the passenger's left foot console wall.
combination flasher *and* turn signal relay seemed pretty loose, so maybe solved...
If I go back out in 30 minutes, and my exterior turn signals aren't on, we may have a winner.
oh please oh please oh please.

I haven't seen any announcements, when is it?
