I always top the speed in Germany-Austria-Slovenia. Maximum mine goes to, is 161 mph with the engine screaming at 6600 rpm, tray is on.

Two days after I bought my 930 in SF I got a ticket near Santa Barbara on my way to LA. I got it up to 145 on a Sunday morning at around 6am and had a chance to decelerate before being stopped by the state patrol. I was clocked at 104. It was unbeknown to me at the time that travelling over 100 is a criminal offence that can result in jail time in most US states. Luckily I got a decent officer who appreciated my honesty and was understanding of my desire to play with the new toy and do so relatively responsibly (Sunday, 6am, no traffic). He let me off with a citation. I had to appear in court and pay a $600 fine.
I have no problem with that ticket but in the past five years, I've received four other tickets while travelling in the US for going anywhere from 10 to 15 miles over the limit with ridiculously high fines, especially in Oregon. Here in Canada, I've had 8 years of driving without getting a single ticket and I drive aggressively. I honestly don't know where you guys in the US find the place to unwind your cars given the harshness of the traffic laws in your country.
Back to top speeds, I first broke 160 in an 86 Carrera when I was 19. I was travelling from Victoria to Vancouver late at night on a weekday and once I passed the ferry traffic, there were no cars in sight. I'll never forget the first time.

I thought the top speeds recorded by the Factory and some test mags were found to be higher in 5th gear, with 6th not being able to push the car as fast as 5th. This is for USA gearing, where both the 5th and 6th gears are overdrives.

Damn. 165!
Having done 140mph in my Corrado, I can only imagine what 165mph feels like. As far as where we find space to do it, it is really all about timing. Here in the tri-state area, the New York State Thruway, New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate 95 (north of the tri-state), and the Long Island Expressway are all candidates for top-speed runs. Even the Palisades Parkway, if you've got the *****![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I have topped out on the LIE, and NYSTW with my car as is sits now, the aforementioned 140, but my car stopped acclerating at 5,000rpms, with more than 2,000rpms to go. I dont know why...maybe I dont have enough ooomph.
When my car was stock, I did 120 on the Palisades.

I agree w/Sean Spicer, it's cool how the car behaves better above 120+mph than it does from 100-120mph, IMHO. My top end run had the windows and sunroof open, which I think probably robbed me of a few more mph...oh well

I did just over 260km/hr last July on the Coquihalla Hwy . The sound passing those tractor trailer awsome and unnevering .I believe I still had more maybe 15 km/hr (chipped) but my eyes were so peeled for wildlife venturing onto the road . I`m glad to say I made a safe landing .

OK so my book says 167. I guess someone had my car to that and determined that to be accuratte. Is 180 possible for a NA 993? Maybe w/ some mods
There is some discussion on 5th vs 6th. I have had mine to Red in 5th, that's 151 in mine and then shifted to 6th and she ket going. At 155 (obc speeds) I decided that was enough so I shut down, I was not floored and the car was still accelerating. The acc and the speed was less hairy for me than the slowdown back to 100. Bone stock original shocks, 95 C2 w/ about 80K on it. Nuts ha?
I felt the car was stable.

I was at 134 on the back of the big Willow track and let me tell you there is a lot happining fast! I can't be sure if it was that fast, I was trying to decide how far into the turn I was going to be before I started braking. I have seen 145 on the 2 freeway when I am sure there is no one in front and for sure no one behind....
