Default CEL/SAI Mileage Poll

Just curious and it would be educational for many of us...
If you've had a CEL/SAI problem, how many miles were on the car when this occurred?

How about adding "never" with the # of miles? That would give us a more accurate idea of IF we can expect to see it, rather than when others have.

At 57,400 miles, no problems whatsoever.

How about a choice for "Never" as it seems that most 96-98 cars don't have this problem.

81,100 miles and no CEL/SAI problem...Hell, I change the oil every 5,000 miles and add no oil between changes. As far as I can tell it burns less than a half quart between changes.

It would be interesting to find some correllation between cars that do get an SAI CEL and their maintenance history. Wonder if more frequent oil changes is the secret. Mine had a history of having the CEL but I have no idea when it first happened. Computer showed 8 resets at 49K miles. I've changed my oil three times now after about 7 to 10K miles between changes. Mine had one bank showing the fault and 25K miles later its still showing the same. I got lucky that the dealer decided to give my call a pass on smog because apart from the start-up sequence that it fails the car is running clean (like most of them with CELs for SAI clogging). I wonder what the PO did wrong to cause the premature valve guide wear (if thatst the cause). Still haven't replaced guides and it runs sweet. Burns about a quart every 1000 miles.

There are some very experienced (and published) authorities on the 993 that are certain that the premature valve guide wear (PVGW) issue is a myth. There are other recognized experts that are just as convinced that PVGW is real and can only be corrected with after-market guides.

I'm no expert so all I can do is collect opinions. Given that I don't have the problem I'm in no position to make a decision as to what to do.

Never, but I have a '95, one of the reasons I bought that model year to begin with.

Had it happen at 180,000 miles (all mine). Dealer removed the deposits with a solvent (9 hours labor, only 6 with the 90K service). It opened up all of the passages except for cylinder 4 which partially opened up. They think that it'll be fine and after 1k miles, the fault hasn't recurred. When I bought the car, I was changing the oil every 5K miles. I rarely had to add any oil between changes. Lately I've been changing oil between 10-15K miles. I burn ~ 1qt oil every 4-5 k miles.
