I had an 04 V8 Touareg for about a year. My experience was similar to some of the others noted. Several electric gremlins which got taken car off. Biggest problem was when the adjustable air suspension failed while out of town on a trip in a snow storm. The traction control and vehicle stability don't work well when the suspension fails so that was a blast. Ended up just being a pin hole leak in the air bladder. Also had to have the stereo replaced because it kept eating CDs.
Once sorted out it was a good vehicle. Lots of power for an SUV and tons of bells and whistles. We let it go because I couldn't stand the gas mileage and it was more car than we needed for carting kids around.

Wow... 11mpg?!? I get 17 - 18 out of my Cayenne S.
Similar vehicles btw... built in the same factory (up to a point) and share a lot of common components.
My wife loves the Cayenne!

I think my long term mpg has been 14 on my v8. The mileage doesn't suck so bad as the range. On the other hand there are a couple of cool mods you can do: keyless start, steering wheel paddle shifters.
