Default Whirring noise @ Right rear

I would appreciate anyone commenting on a current dilema I am having with my p-car. The last few times I have gone for a spin I expirience a loud whirring noise coming from the right rear of the car. I can make the noise nearly go away when cornering hard (right hand cornering). I suspect it is either a CV joint going out or a wheel bearing. Has anyone expirienced this phenomenon. The car is an early 95 C2 with approx. 70k miles.

Sounds like the wheel bearing is on the way out. It stops making the noise under lateral load,
Went through a few of these, go to a good independent mechanic. Chris

My friend's TT was recently making a similar noise to what you describe. It was the wheel bearing.

I agree that it's probably a wheel bearing. CV joints usually make a rythmic
clacking and or clunking type noise.

I agree, this sounds like a faulty wheel bearing but that would be rare. It could be a tire also. You could try swapping the rear wheels and tires first and see of the noise travels to the left side.

Is the noise there while at a stop but with the engines in revs? if so, your steering pump may be low on fluid, the pump will make a whirring sound if low and is located on the right rear, when you turn hard, the pump picks up fluid and the sounds stops.
