Brett,
I highly doubt it, but if I'm wrong I'm sure there are other gurus here that will correct me. Anyway, good luck w/ your search and nice choice of 993!

Well, that didn't take long! Thanks for the info. I guess I should have asked where the car was located as I don't believe that option was available on US bound cars.

If it wasn't for the American Revolution, most of us would be driving (on the left) 3.8L cars with ROW suspension (because we would be ROW!) and no bumperettes.
How nice would that be??
But then we'd be on here discussing 4.0L conversions.

ok back to the gurus (and leaving the subject of boston and tea well behind) , the ony reference I can find is X51 which from what little research i have done is an exlusive option and decodes as engine upgrade for 996TT.
BTW (its not in the option decoder).. anyone have a clue what that actually means.
is it indeed the mythical 3.8l 300bhp option.
whilst where on the subject the gearbox code G6421 i cant find a listing anywhere for (actually not too worried about this part)
One step closer, car is nearly immaculate, just need to sort out that im paying for what he says im paying for,.

Yes the Carrera's came with the option X51 in the EU.
Engine code is
M64.51 3.8L 220 KW
Two important things to note:
X51 engine is not at all a Carrera RS engine, but has the same cylinders-pistons-etc. RS engine code is M64.20
That is its a beefed up carrera engine with respect to bore only. The same block as RS.
RS has lightweight crank-cam etc etc.
though it has the same Hp, the RS engine is race-tunning ready while X51 is not
X51 option is only a sale argument if it is noted on the hood sticker, and not a later upgrade.
Porsche could upgrade your carrera today with X51 option which is still on the options list,
but you will have no proof of the upgrade for reselling purposes.
If your seller states X51, he is asking a relevant price because of that.
Ask him if X51 is on the sticker, if not, there is no reason for paying higher than a normal carrera engine, unless you give the VIN to Porsche and ask them for the installed options list.
Usually they won't give it unless the car is through their network.
On the other side, some did install the X51 for real, and could not prove later they had it.
There is zero sign on the car, it is only the piston - bore-etc.
Gearbox code G6421 is a 95-96 / 6 speed gearbox with option M220
Option M220 is a Limited Slip Differential 40%
Engine code is
M64.51 3.8L 220 KW

Ok thanks for the info and help... x51 is in service book on the sticker.. which has a matching vin no to window label, so i think ill assume he is being honest, although it does have m6421-83t as an engine code with of course x51 in the option list, in any case ill go ahead and get a ppi done now.
