Question Loose shift ****--no set screw?

My shift **** slides up and down the shift lever without resistance. I pulled off the boot to look for some sort of set screw or other way to tighten it. No set screw or hole for one that I can see. I shone a flashlight down the hole and there's nothing in there that I could see that would retain the **** on the shift lever.

How's this supposed to stay on?

Not sure about that shift **** specifically but the stock one fits via a friction fit, no set screw.

It look very much like the 928 versions .... if so, at the top of the rectangular slot in the ****, there are two rubber nubs that 'lock' into the cutouts at the top of the shift lever. You can confirm the depth and configuration of the hole with a piece of wire to see if that is the case.
The nubs are engaged with pressure after sliding on over the lever.

My spare stock 993 boot is aluminium, and two rubber mouldings center it over the lever: there is a spring steel clip at the bottom to secure it

The Alu/leather or Alu/Carbon/leather shifter has a set screw.

This is alu-look plastic I think. I tried pushing really hard and it did click into place. Thanks. Of course now the **** is even lower. Maybe weld in a 3/4" extension when I do the short shifter.
