Measuring the Kinematic ..
About to get mine set up again after 4 years on PSS9 at RS settings, and I am rather concerned about kinematic toe setting.
Using factory kine gauges is problematic at the ride height (car must be raised by jacking), but at least the relationship between the control arm and track control arm is established. I am concerned with using the Autometrics / Porsche Motor Sport gauge (which pops onto the calipermounts), that you are only equalising the adjustment side to side, rather than some absolute measure. Or am I mistaken, and there is an optimum reading on that gauge to shoot for ?
Can anyone shed any light here, its worrying me !
cheers, Maurice

Stop worrying, come north a bit and get a booking with Robin at 9M. He did mine again about three weeks ago and has improved it loads. Couldn't get Andy out of the driver's seat and he holds a top ARDS licence, tests sports protos among other things and is an unbelievably fast bloke around a circuit. He ordered me to ring Robin and give the positive feedback, having driven the car both before and after.
You know its the right thing to do............

I studied all the diagrams and Porsche alignment workshop manual for hours.
and still cannot figure how the caliper tool (vertical x-axis) can adjust the lower arm angles (horizontal angle y-axis)
Does anyone know where can I purchase the original kinematic porsche tools parts 9549 and 9550?
their respective part numbers are 000 721 95490 and 000 721 955 00

Well, Geolab, next time you're in Blighty, you can pop up and borrow mine ...
They are NLA from Porsche TTBoMK, and were very expensive works of engineering art ..
cheers, Maurice

Hi Maurice
I thought Chris Franklin of Center Gravity was doing some work on your car? He has the motorsport Kine tool, and when he did mine he was definitely trying to acheive the specific values on the gauge.

OJT, I'm having a big service at the same time, managed to coordinate needing to be at HQ for a couple of days. Can't really do that for Warrington ..
So Paul, Pete T is doing it, think he's fed up with me already !

You are correct to worry Maurice. What you need is someone that has calibrated the Autometrics gauge against the factory Kmart (snide comment. If you have ever seen one, and can imagine it costing $14K now... NUTS) toe gauge. Remember the factory tool is this is still used to set the RS ride height. So if the shop knows what they are doing, and has done some calibration work, then you should be OK. Otherwise you are correct, you will just be getting a similar setting side to side and maybe neither will be in spec....

I have a porsche step by step manual how to calibrate kinematic toe on 993 RS M002/M003 if anyone needs it

So Bob - is the calibration absolute?
I have the Autometrics guage. If I were to have the car aligned by the dealer and then measure with the Autometrics tool, will the Autometrics tool read correct KT for all cars forever ever, or only for that car with that alignment?

I'd like to hear more on this. When my car was aligned after I installed the M030 the tech guy (reputed to be very knowledgable) didn't check KT with any gauge---he just pointed out a locating link and said "that's the one we never move because kinematic toe is set at the factory."
If the KT is off, what is the characteristic felt by the driver?

"Kinematic Komedy" ....
..... so I motor a 100 Km each way today in the rain to have Porsche do the final alignment after the typical suspension upgrades - for they have the only kinematic gauges within 1500 KM:
After communicating the relevant data to the tech, and well into the $300 process - the shop foreman asks me where I have placed the plastic covers for the rear toe links. "What plastic covers?" says I ..... with a dumbfounded look on my face.
The first of two gauges hangs from the nubs on the rear link of the lower 'A' arm .... and apparently the second gauge can only hang from bottom slots in a $7 Mickey Mouse 'clip on' plastic cover for the toe link. The Dealership has the $12,000 gauges .... and no cheesy $6 plastic clip ... and I never have never seen them on any car.
Conclusion - a well done, albeit expensive alignment with the kinematic toe untouched! .... which was my only objective in going there in ther first place ...
"Bring it back in the spring ... and we'll check it out again" was the parting advice .... Right!!
