Yes, the fill port is placed at this height for a reason, to set oil level.

Dudley: Very nice pics. When you say the washers were replaced do you mean putting back on the original washers or new washers?

A easy way to get all the oil out of the Mobil container is to soak the oil in some hot water. It flows much better after that.

As a rule, I replace the sealing washers. That being said, I am not sure replacing them after each fluid change is critical on low/no pressure applications. I just feel better replacing them.

Sounds like a winner. I used my Motive Bleeder to pump the fluid in. It worked but I made a mess doing it.

Dudley, where do you get the sealing washers I've got a 00 Tip 996 with the ZF Auto Trans and the seal on the refill/fill screw looks like its a small Teflon or hard plastic type. This is the information I was able to find from the ZF parts catalog.


ZF P/N: 0636 308 025 Screw Plug M18x1.5
But no actual place to procure it from.
