I had to vote errr. While I love the car after 5 years of ownership there are other cars that probably would give me a greater sense of satisfaction. However, I can't afford them!

Still, it is a great car and I am thankful to have it!!!

About as far as I will ever go is "nice car". I dont have that "love" that quite a few people have with their cars. Not that there is anything wrong with it.

Pong, you've made this a difficult decision. I LOVE my car......I LOVED yours more I know there are faster models out there than mine. I have no plans to ever sell it ( to date its the coolest car I've owned), add a sibling would be more likely.
I hope that Ninemeister gets it together and brings that head work mod over here, I'll be the first in line. I'd love more power, but not sure SC'ing it would be the right choice. The value of the car is probably already somewhat hurt due to the miles (107k) but it seems anything out of the norm devalues it further.
But heads, a chip, LWFW, that should make me feel better.

Cant imagine my life without even one 993. This car evokes so much emotion, there is nothing else on the Porsche line that does that to me. If I can in the future I will plunge on a GT3 but I just cant imagine at the expense of the 993. The newer or older 911's are great but there is only one 993. My cabrio has been with me for 5 years now and everytime I look on drive her it still feels like the first time I fell in love. No other Porsche has ever done this to me... I suspect that if I do the 9M power upgrade the GT3 will loose it present "object of lust" status in my mind fast...

As with any love, we have our ups and downs. Right now my car is being an angel and aging gracefully. We're transitioning into the modern classic rather than performance car. Plenty of cars out there are faster. It is becoming less of a car driven "to be seen" which has finally removed me from the "rich girl in daddy's car" stereotype which I detest. Fewer and fewer people notice my car at all-marque car shows. But I still get enthusiasts that will come over to drool and dream.

I can easily see myself driving this car for 15+ years. It's just...me.

I love my 993 but I recently considered selling it and getting a 930 Turbo to race. Sanity, and the thought of a more tempermental mistress, prevailed and I decided to keep my 3064 lb beast.

A few months ago, I believe I wrote that I would hold onto the car forever. Technically, I haven't violated that utterance.

The only car I would give up my 993 for is a 993 Turbo or RUF, so I guess I wouldn't really be giving it up!

I too have looked at the 930's (not to race). I think they are an under price jewel right now. Look at what the 993 TT's are doing. Granted they are a much better car than the 930, but for the performance of the later year models (late 80's) and the fact that the 964 Turbos have come back around in price, the 930 is a good deal. I think the first ones will see a collector status some day.......first production Turbo of its type etc etc.....

I'm really diggin' my 993. But I'll own an F360 some day. And I still have my '85 Audi Quattro, what a cool machine that is. The 993 is an amazing package (to quote Ross Brawn) but it's not the end-all-be-all of automobiles, IMHO, YMMV, peace.

After almost one year of ownership (13 days), I can say that the 993 has satisfied all of my Porsche longings. I've spent a great deal of time digging into what makes the car tick, performing fluid changes and other maintenance, and of course, cleaning. I love the color, the Stone-Age simplicity of the interior and raw eagerness of the engine. I made a promise to the car that I'll only replace it if destroyed. Then I'll start an all-out search for another low-mileage '95. And that's a fact.

Bought my 95 Polar Silver Cab in late 99 and immedialtely wet my pants as I drove it back to Atlanta from Illinois. I loved my previous 83 SC Cab, but this car was, and is, amazing! I had said that I would never sell the SC but this time I think I really mean it. My father-in-law had a 1962 356 roadster that he was getting tired of and my wife had suggested...to him mind you, and right in front of me at that...that I should sell the 993 and buy the 356. Very tempting but every time I drive the 993, I just come back all grins. I love the classic style, the color, the feel...everything about it.

So how to handle the dilemna? Bite the bullet and buy the 356 anyway, of course. After all, it just can't leave the family, right? Now my problem, other than how to afford both, is space. We live in an old intown home with a 1-car garage. Fortunately, at the head of the garage is a large storage room with double doors from the garage. He and I built a ramp to scale the 2 steps up to the storage room and the 356 BARELY fits through the door with it's tail hanging out into the garage.

So, I obviously LOVE the 993. Will I ever get rid of it? I truly can't say. We have a need to remodel the basement in a few years and turn that storage room into a guest bedroom. I suppose at that time, I'll have to make some decisions, or before if my father-in-law calls in the loan for the 356. Andreas, if you've destroyed yours by then, we'll be in touch! Mine only has 18,000 miles—definitely qualifying it as a low-mileage example.

I am still searching for my father's old '61 356 notchback - perhaps the one in your garage needs a new home....
