Hey Greg,

You are forgetting that here in the UK we get screwed over on everything... You still have some expectation of customer service and value whereas over here most people just bend over....

Cheers,

David

In the UK it will be law next month that children up to about 4 years old will have to sit in a forward facing child seat and I can't find one that will fit in the back of my 993 (without spending a small fortune). The kids both fit in the back seats perfectly, so I'm wondering if I we can get around this due to our unique design.

I have sampled many brands of forward facing car seats for the rear of my '95 coupe. The only one that fits properly -- so that the base of the car seat isn't resting on the seat belt receptor at a weird angle-- is the Kids Plus that I purchased from Gert at Carnewal. It isn't inexpensive, but it fits.

Hi Darren,

Could you get away with a booster seat as your children are older? It does not say that you have to buy the booster seat so you could fabricate something? All it is a glorified cushion....

Cheers,

David

Thanks for the tip, Dave. I'll give it a go. I'm going to drop into the local Police station next week and see where I stand.

BTW - are you going to the Porsche festival tomorrow or Sunday? My car will be on the 993 register display as you go in (sorry for the hi-jack!).

Hi Darren,

Sorry - I didn't make it but it sounds like a I didn't miss much (see thread on 964 forum). Perhaps we can catch up at the next Rennlister meeting?

I'd be interested to hear how you get on re the booster as my two year old is growing rapidly...

(Sorry for the thread hijack)

Cheers,

David

I successfully used a rear-facing infant seat in the back of my 993, behind the passenger seat. However to do so the original (short!) rear seat belt needs to go out and I replaced it by a 996 belt which is much longer. This is a perfectly reversible process and requires no modifications except it has to go on the 993 seatbelt's roller. In fact the 996 belt is a bit too long, and the last meter of it can not be rolled back onto the roller, but it just worked ok. Ideally if you could cut off 0.5 - 0.75 m or so that would be perfect. The front seat needed to be pushed a bit to the front but it was still ok for my wife. Anything but a rear-facing TUV-approved seat for an infant is unacceptable (EDIT: based on various crash tests I read at the time 3-4 years back when I researched the topic; my daughter is now 3 1/2 and I use the Porsche Prince seat).

You have to buy an extended belt even just to use the Porsche (forward facing) seat. It doesn't cost too much and is a fifteen minute job. I don't think anyone is suggesting putting an infant in a forward facing seat. I just waited the long nine or ten months until my daughter was big enough to not need a forward facing seat. She loves it!

Cheers,

David

The extended belt did not work for the particular infant seat I used since the "buckles" of the extension belt could not pass through the openings/fittings of the seat.

Not sure I understand what you mean by buckles?

Thanks,

David
