Default Brake Caliper Painting

I was wondering if anyone out there who painted their brake calipers used one of the paint stencil or decal kits to apply the "Porsche" lettering.
It would seem to me that the decal would peel off, but a painted stencil, if painted with epoxy heat resistent type paint would work better.

Has anyone tried this?

I used heat resistant vinyl decals from www.xenonmods.com (no affil.) when I painted my rear calipers about a year ago.

After multiple washes, track days, and brake bleeds they still look perfect.

I painted 2 different sets of brake calipers for customers, once on a 968, once on a Ford GT (don't ask!), and I wouldn't recommend it, we won't do it anymore. I did it the right way too---removed all the calipers, plugged all the holes and bead blasted the old paint off and masked em off and everything. I was real careful, didn't glob it on, all brush strokes in same direction, but didn't turn out great. Both customers were real happy but I wasn't, a lot of work for not too great of a result. I didn't, however, try stenciling lettering on either, just painted em solid red. You're right, a decal would just come off. If you were willing to spend bucks and powdercoat em, it'd look nice, but then you might as well upgrade to factory big reds . . . Wish I had more encouragement for ya, but I'm just relating my experience.

I used decals that were custom cut for my car to the exact dimensions of the original lettering after I painted mine red like Marc's. It's been three months and they look perfect.

I have done it several times. Use the decals, tryng to spray a stencil is a pain. Once you put the heat resistant decal on, then clear coat them. You can but heat resistant clear coat at most automotive stores. They will look great and last a long time. I have even done this for my cup cars, and they last through the heat of the racing brakes.

Great feedback. Thanks a lot. I did not think about the clearcoat after applying the decals. I'm going to do it (over a rainy weekend of course).

I just got new RH AG Cup wheels (actually slightly used from another rennlister, is this a great site or what?), and my next thing is to paint the calipers red...just to add a little color to my white and black cab!

I got my paint at PepBoys. They have a few different colors of spray or brush on caliper paint. Took a bit over 1 can to do 4 coats on all 4 calipers.

I tried to use the stencils and paint them on, did not come out so great, very diificult to remove stencil. Did the decals on the other side, came out very nice no mess, no tape and you could buy several sets ln case they start looking bad. xenonmods, they come 6 to the set.
Good luck

Ah, that was a classic thread. I live less than 2 miles from the early-caliper -painter Akolodesh and kid him every time we bump into each other. Unfortunately, he seems to have lost the p-car bug and doesn't frequent the board anymore.

I am going with red caliper paint, ordered the pcar decals from Xenonmods and still need to get some high temp clearcoat spray.

White car, black top, new RH AG Cup wheels, with some red calipers for a touch of color.
