Gotta say....saw one tonight (in the dark) from a distance and it looked a liiiiiiiitttlllle bit like a VW beetle with the HIDs on .... as Ali G would say, "no disrespec".... it just did.

Amen brother! Nothing can touch our 993's for aesthetic satisfaction.

I cannot tell you how many times I've heard that very statement! I LOVE the looks of my 993 with it's Cargraphic wheels, Gert's lowered MO33 suspension, and RS tail; I think it looks better than the 997.

With all that said though, I would take a 997 GT3 in a heartbeat as it looks almost as good, and, has REAL performance compared to my 'slow' NA 96 993.

In the meantime though, I am perfectly satisfied driving around in that beautiful 993...

"This ole thing? It's over 10 years old and is worth no more than your new SUV!"

I personally don't want to be driving a newish $80k car. I'd worry about it abd it's rapid depreciation too much. I bought my 993 about 4 years ago for $40500 and it's worth close to that now!

The 997 is a beauty. I spent sun-up to sun down yesterday looking at them during a day of autoxing. They perform and look wonderful. Just not certain if it would really make me happy like the 993 does. Then again, what was I doing autoxing my wifes Boxster yesterday??

My feelings exactly - if I replace my 993, it will be with an older Porsche, not a newer one. And yes, I could afford a 997 if I wanted one.

Hmmmmmm......add - yes, trade - no. If money was not an issue, I'd have one of every Porsche and the 997 would be no exception. HOWEVER, I am stil recovering from the "996" mistake...looks like Porsche is coming back into the fold with the 997. But I would NEVER and I mean NEVER give up the best air cooled, hand built, bullet proof vehicle ever made by Porsche.

I'd be glad to test drive a GT3-RS for...oh...about a year to comfirm that...if anyone is offering

There are 2 vehicles I plan on hanging on for a while-my 77 Bronco and 95 C4. If there were any switch, it would be my C4 to something else in the Pcar world and the Bronco stays. I havent even looked at a 997 close enough to determine if would even be of interest. But whatever it ends up being, it will be a turbo of some sort.

This is an interesting thread...........I dont really want a 997.....just like the oil cooled baby I have....although I did considered selling her when somebody recently asked me if I would sell her and at what price.....my reply was "forget it" but then I suddenly thought, how much is she worth to me and if I got enough could I buy one with less miles and do all the upgrades again.......maybe a yellow, like the other eric,..........but then with 94K miles on her I just would not get what I have invested into her........so no not a 997 but I do hanker after a wide body, in yellow, with low miles and at a price I can afford!!!!.........sorry, bit off target....

Gotta say the older I get the more I appreciate simple. My 993 is the best it gets for me-- and it's even a bit too "techie" for me. Do I dare say I have a pretty damn good time driving my 69 912 around town! IMO the 993 is the best looking P car ever made. It would be a stretch to buy a 997 but I probably could. But with that said I'd have to say I would rather spend my $$ on other things. Cup holders, keypad looking dash layouts, and a black box to control everything just don't move me.

I test drove one this weekend and came to the conclusion that I'd like one for a daily driver.

My garage can't handle 5 cars, so I am currently "negotiating" with the wife to sell two of them and buy a 997S.

(Lexus & BMW goes... 993 stays, she keeps the SUV).

Don't quite understand this statement... the 997 is simply a facelifted 996!

Was only talking about styling...didn't say "facelift"...its just that IMHO the fact that the 997 takes a lot of styling cues from the 993 means that Porsche is essentially admitting that they went off too far on a tangent styling wise with the 996. Sure it contains the upgraded and improved guts of the 996....but that's what progress means, the lastest and greatest technology and performance. A 997 will wipe a 993 off the track, and we all drive Porsches for multiple reasons, performance, styling, driving experience, etc.

Just admitting that the 997 takes a step back closer to the 993 styling wise...unfortunately it needs to hydrate :-(

993 looks are unmatched and I like the simplicity and the new/old aspect of the design. As I've said before (and some people took offense) to me the 993 is the newest classic sports car you can buy, which I consider a good thing and is the reason I bought it.

All that said, air cooling is inefficient and the 997 makes LOTS more HP, especially with the power kit. From certain angles the car looks quite pleasing. If I could afford it, which I can't, I would get one tomorrow.

I had an 02 and 04 996, then got an 05 997 which I had for about 6 months. The 996's and 997's would be better than a 993 as a daily mode of transportation in my opinion, But if you have not been around the newer cars, just close the door and you will see what I mean. The build quality of the 993 model is very hard to beat. I felt the waterpumpers that I had, had no soul, just kind of boring. So I got rid of them and searched for the car I have now (98 993 C2S) which I am very happy with. I have other cars that I use everyday which does make a difference and made my decision easy. As far as cost, I sold my 2005 997 for not much more than I bought my 98 for, and if you add in the additional money I spent on it, I would have less $ in the 997.

Quick Reply: How many of you guys would switch to a 997 if you could easily afford it?
