Smile New alignment needed after switching to 18's?

what's the opinion of the crowd on requiring a new alignment after switching from oem 17's to bbs 18's? my 96 coupe is lowered to ROW carrera/sport ride height w/ 17" wheels. i wouldn't think a change in wheel would require a new alignment. any thoughts?

thanks

marc

I think you're right... no alignment is required.

There's no real alignment change but just make sure your steering rack has the update kit for larger diameter wheels.

Your '96 has no need for the steering rack upgrade kit, as it was offered with 18" wheels as an option. The steering rack upgrade kit is a retro-fit for '95s (in the USA).

I agree, this is mainly for the early production 1994's and also 1995's but strangely enough some 1996 993 models do not have the upgrade kit installed from the factory. Most do but it's worth the look to make sure.

Definitely want to be certain it is there, I agree.

Default Steering Rack Upgrade

been away for a while, and revisiting an old post, i see about checking the rack to see if it was the upgrade. how would one know if the rack had been upgraded?

It's not the steering rack that you upgrade, it's the same except for the RS. This upgrade consists of only a bracket and 4 bolts. You can tell by visually inspecting the rack area once the plastic underpanel is removed. There is a bracket that ties the steering rack bolts and brackets together. The part numbers are; 1) Bracket 993.347.131.02, 2)long bolts 999.218.103.09 and 2) Short bolts 999.218.102.09. You can read the part number on the bracket when you remove the panel, good luck.
