Failed tech inspection, need to secure Optima
I've been using an Optima Red Top battery for the last six months or so. I've autocrossed several times since I installed it, but last weekend got caught at tech inspection for having an unsecured battery. I have it fixed in place with the toe bracket that came with the car. Pushing away from the bracket, the battery doesn't budge, but if you push hard enough toward the bracket, the battery comes loose. No amount of cranking down on the bracket bolt would fix this, and it looks like the bracket itself does not mate well with the battery.
From searching the forum, it looks like a battery hold-down from Odyssey http://www.odysseybatteries.com/accessories/optima.htm or Rennline http://rennline.com/product.php/sid/7/aid/84/prodid/105 would do the trick. The Odyssey looks like it would require drilling but Rennline say no drilling required.
Any other suggestions on this?
Thanks,
John

go to your Autozone/ Pep Boys and tell them you need the bracket that has the same shape as the battery. I found one in some stuff I was going through in my trailer that they apparently gave me when I bought the battery. My Optima was flopping all around my trunk during a race causeing intermittnt loss of power (electrical and motor) until it finally pulled the neg cable off the post. Anyway, Optima makes a bracket that will work.
