Hi Guys,

I have attached a pic of the TAo3 RS I have for my GT2 Tamiya RC. I also have a few of the standard chassis.

If anyone knows of a new body shell for the GT2 PIAA or Starcard I would be willing to pay fair money.

Cheers

That's an awsome chasis. They are selling this complete kit NIB for $320 on ebay. Don't know if it is the same that you are looking for but it seems these things are a limited edition that were produced back in 1996? Very cool!

Check the link and let me know if this has the same chasis that you are showing in your picture.

Hi Cario993 and others,

The chassis you see in my picture is the hopped up "professional" TA03RSTRF. These had alot of carbon and alluminium compoents as standard and were about as far as you could go with this chassis in 1996 - although my one has a few additional tweaks to aid weight and thus speed. This chassis is very quick and cosmetically looks fantastic. I think you would pay $400 USD+ on ebay for a similar Mint version as the one I bought (although its no longer mint).

The chassis for the GT2 and GT1 bodies was specifically made by Tamiya for these shells. The chassis has a shorter and wider 4WD wheelbase than their other cars.

The link you sent is of the original GT2 PIAA package. It has the standard bath tub style injection moulded plastic chassis and plastic components. These are heavier, more crude but strong.

The Tamiya GT2 body/RC car is a must for any 993 nut but a very expensive static toy. I use my chassis (including the carbon one) fairly regularly in the carpark - however I have a few old GT1 bodies I put on them.

I would say they will definately be a future classic (like our cars), but what a shame to leave it in the box! I would advise buying a second hand chassis/radio gear for this car and buy a new body off ebay for show and an old body for using.

They are 1/10th scale and the proportions are excellent so they look very cool in your model collection!

Here is a pick of the hopped up chassis kit - if you see one of these for sale BUY IT!! They are scarce...

Cheers

What a great hobby. I can see myslef spending lots of money on this stuff. Talk about slippery slope!

My last hobby was R/C sailplanes. I used to compete in the F3B sailplane class and slope aerobatics. The sailplane kits were all made of Kevlar, Carbon fiber and titanium rods. Very high tech stuff but also very expensive to crash.

Thanks for the info on the chasis. I'll keep an eye open for one if it pops up on ebay. You just made me spend more money.

Hi Macca,

I've seen a few in the past on Ebay. I got a second hand PIAA GT2 to use the body with my NIB PIAA but it's too good and works fine anyway so now I need two spare bodies!

Cheers,

David

Sadly that link referred to a 2005 item by an Italian company and they don't show anything now so I assume that never made it to production.

if anyone is into it
i have a 1/8th (big) FG Modelsport 993 GT-2 w/ several bodies (1-2 unpainted, incld a 964 GT LeMans) - currently disassembled but all there and a FG 1/8th (again) GT-1 (painted Red) both have disc brakes, extra wheels, & a lot of spares
i'm going to sell them at some point via ebay - make me an offer (they were pricey new)
when i get back from india i can send some pictures
