Default Is Excellence Magazine relevant to the 993 owners?

I have a renewal notice and I am wondering if Excellence Magazie is really relevent to us anymore.

The Market review is too low and most of the ads are for 996/Boxter 997. Of course there are smaller ads for items that we can use but the new products and the development are for 1 and now 2 generations ahead of us.

There are a few articles about 993s but not many. Of course, many of us have multiple Porsche interests and they do try and have a little bit from each era of cars to have a broader base of appeal.

Not sure which way I will go to renew or not. I do know the real info is here at Rennlist. Wo Ho!

Good question. However, as far as your own renewal - I would say "when in doubt, throw it out". If you are not getting thing out of it, get rid of it!

Not really, as their advertising is geared to the latest greatest (?) models.

I did'nt re-up last time and find Pano and the local PCA mag are sufficient.

Best wishes

I like articles about non-993s as well, and like to drool over cars like the GT2, etc. Cheap entertainment!

Why don't you cancel and take the money and subscribe to one of the brit publications like "Total911" http://www.total911.com/ or "GT Purely Porsche" http://www.gtpurelyporsche.com/? I've found those magazines to be a lot of fun to read and full of stuff on 993s (no affiliation with either mag).

Been thinking the same thing lately. Its become one big advertisement too. Now I know things need to get paid for which is done through advertising, but does anyone actually buy those "Bling'y" Giovanna rims or what ever the hell brand they are? The cars for sale "by owners" in the back have been dwindling for years.....does anyone actually subscribe to the mag, 'cause ad pricing can be expensive.
And with as little actual sports car racing that Speed shows anymore, don't they think that we have already tuned in and watched the race that they dedicate 10 pages to?
For a model covetted to be the "best 911 ever built" or "one of" as Bruce had to relinquish to, the 993 has sure been swept under the rug in the last few years.

I find the Brit mags to be far superior to the Panorama or Excellence.

And what's that line that Bruce Anderson says in each Market Value section?

"Buy the best, newest Porsche you can afford"

Hahaha...gee whiz Wally, thanks.

Well, coming from the other direction, I think the English Porsche mags are cr^p, and subscribe only to Excellence (and Motor Sport, but that's different !)

cheers, Maurice

I've been subscribing to Excellence for years and have lately been absolutely disgusted with myself for trying to read it. The quantity of ads are pathetic. One issue a while back I felt compelled to count... and I counted 100 ads in the first 100 pages. And those are all the half or full page "glamour spreads". I feel like I'm reading a Porsche equivalent of Hustler. I tell myself "Honestly, I read it for the articles" but in reality, all you can do is look at pretty pictures of the latest 997 body kits or 28" wheels for Cayennes.

And they really should just replace answers to all reader submitted questions with: Go to rennlist.

You said what I was really feeling, but didn't want to admit that I had "flipped" through **** mags before

But you're right, the ads are annoying and to many..........I'm sure we have enough talent here, we should all get together and start a REAL magazine
