Fits only for one car but it is enough place to work at it:

Man, you guys are making me want to move to the 'burbs! I have a 2-car garage, but it's "tandem," meaning you park one car in front of the other. Single 8' wide door. So I'm always moving one car to get to the other.

My Garage-Mahal is a work in progress, thus no pics. Here's what I have done:

* 720 sq. ft. oversized 3-car w/9' insulated doors.
* insulated walls and ceiling
* ceiling fan
* 27" wall mounted tv with surround sound

Here's what is in the plans:

* Drywall
* Lighting - 3 industrial grade 4 bulb 4 foot flourescents
* Paint - Off white walls with three 3" horizontal stripes stacked one on the other - German flag colors.
* Flooring - Commercial grade floor tiles in white/light grey checkerboard.
* Scissor lift flush mounted in the floor.

It's probably going to take a couple of years to complete, but I can assure you I'll post before and after pics.

How about posting a larger version of your avatar?

I'd love to get a better look at it.

Thanks in advance

You guys have very nice setups and functional too I see.

The door does clear the top car with it in the raised position. The angle makes it look like it doesn't. If you look at the top of the garage door, you will see an extra panel secton. That section, along with adding a new length to the guide rails, and increasing the diameter of the turn where it goes horozontal allows the rails to be raised to the maximum level. With everything in place, I only have about 2" to spare, but it's good as a mile. I would have about 10" clearance to the ceiling if I removed the door opener but it's not worth going manual. The front mount units I've found are only being marketed for non residential service and not for extended heights like mine. Maybe one day.

I've only done an oil change on my SC so I did not need to remove the wheel. MY 993 oil change is coming up and this is how I anticipate I'll do it. Raise the lift about 6" from the floor; just enough for the base of the jack to go underneath. Then partially raise the jack so it will go over the tracks and under the car. I think you'll need one of the low rise jacks with high lift capability. I have one of the AC Hydraulics since my SC has been lowered. You will need a lift pan. I have one that came free with my lift and it is a heavy duty steel section that slides along the tracks. Once the car is lifted with the jack, place a jack stand in the lift pan and lower the car onto the jackstand as you normally would. Then you just back out the jack and lift everything up to the level you want. I can provide some better instruction once I give it a try this Fall.

I have a feeling that some repairs will be easier not using the lift. For example, the lift tracks would probably be more in the way for suspension work and it would probably be quicker just using the standard jack. That is the weakness of the four post lift compared to the two poster.

This is nice; no question about it.

But if money is no object, why woudn't you go with something the neighbors will compliment:

Rhino, nice job! I have a black 96 C2 and am giving strong consideration to the RUF wheels. You like? Are yours 18" or 19"??? Thanks.

thanks for the acknowledgments. It was a fun project. The ceiling is 14 feet so I plan to put a lift in over the next year. I will also need to replace the garage door at the same time.

the floor is by Swisstrax. http://www.swisstrax.com/
They were great to work with and delivered in just a few days. In fact as I was putting the floor down (which took about 3-4 hours) they called me to see how I was doing and if I needed any advice. You don't find service like that much these days.

The RUF wheels are 18's. I think they are timeless wheels and look great but I have seen many other wheels on this site that also look great and have tempted my pocket book.
