People read what is on the car, which isn't too surprising, and most aren't inflicted with the sickness that we are all enjoying.
I bought a house in 2000 from a guy who had a Rotary lift in one of the garage bays, with a 996 Cab sitting on it (my wife still says that sold the house to me). As I got talking to him and asked how he liked the water-cooled car, he looked at me like I had two heads (on my shoulders). When I told him of my aircooled 993s, he said "Really?, I didn't know there was an aircooled car made after the original Beetles (VWs, not Band). Who would want one of them?" I felt better about my low-ball offer after that!

Can someone please enlighten me as to what exactly a 965 is? Is it simply a 964 Turbo? Or are 965's distinctly different from 964Turbos?

In the Spring of 1998 I purchased one of the first 1999 996 coupes (special order). I kept the car a week before I decided to sell it (the car had nothing in common with prior Porsches that I had been fortunate enough to own). At any rate, I advertised it in Autoweek as a 996 for about a month, NO Calls! I changed the ad to read "the New 911" and sold it the first day the new ad was published. It makes me sick when I think back and realize I could have purchased a new 1998 993 at the time I placed the order for the new 996. (I had never owned a 993 at the time) If I had bought a 993 new in 1998, I am sure that I would never have sold it...just glad I got one of the few '96 Carrera 4 polar silver 911's ever made!

My former employer recieved a phone call from our local tv station one day while I was wrenching on a 911, (I don't remember if it was an SC, a Carrera, or a 993, but I know it was a 911).The reporter said that they were doing a story on our concours, but didn't know how to pronounce porsch-. The guy says, "they" (the Porsche guys) were pronouncing it one way, but we all pronounce it a different way. My boss tells him "It's a 2 syllable word, a German guy's name, Porsch-aaa, and if you pronounce it any differently, you're a moron, or you're from Bakersfield".

Somehow the state of New Mexico put 942 on my title instead of 911 or 993 and they won't change it for nothing - even when I showed my other title and the fact that they 942 was only one car and Ferry's at that. Go figure

Several years ago I had an elderly friend of my Mother-In-Law make the same "Camaro" comment about my NB '96. I was letting it go until he studied the front emblem very closely and than asked, "it is a Peugeot?". The terrifying thing was that the gentleman was driving.......
