Default CA Smog - how often?

I just did smog when I bought the car (97 C4S). When is the next time I have to do another smog? How does DMV determine the interval?

Just wondering since I'm pondering doing the x pipe...

Thanks.

Depending on where you live. Its every two years here in Cali. So if you did it in May 2006. It will be May 2008 next. If you live in a area of change of ownership only then you won't have to smog it. However there isn't many counties left that are considered change of ownership only. You can check the Ca smog site out and input your zipcode to check but trust me if you live anywhere near a city chances are you are just the typical old enhanced area.

I know the laws very well. I had a mustang for years with no smog stuff on it, no cat converters, T-72 Turbo and very loud exhaust.

Yep, every other year based on your registration date.

Guess it a good time for me to put on a x pipe, since I just did a smog a couple months ago.

and, if for some reason you have a problem passing smog. Say for example your 993 is not your everyday driver and the battery dies and flags re-set, etc.
You can always refer back to my old post about a REFEREE STATION..

OBDII is a big pain in the rear.
