Default HELP!...Suspension/spring/balance question?

I have purchased (from a local racer friend) a set of 4 Bilstein HD's with Eibach 325lb front and 575lb rear springs. (I won't say how much I paid or you'll all hate me )

This suspension was originally built by David Taylor (who was at TRG at the time, now back in New Zealand from what I hear) for a 96' 993 C4 to C2 conversion chassis and the spring rate difference was intended to dial out some understeer and get the car more neutral, it worked very well with 235 & 295 18's & big sway bars (TRG adjustables)

I just took the shocks to Bilstein here in San Diego and had them rebuilt to a rebound and compression rate more suited to the street and wanted to know if any of you would have opinions on running the 325 & 575 lb springs with my stock sway bars (21 & 17) and stock 205 & 255 17's.

It seems to me as long as I keep a similar tire size difference I might acheive similar neutral turn in results but the sway bars are an unknown factor, any suggestions on the sways?

Would any of you just install M030 ROW springs from Gert and can the 325 & 575's?

I'm a very aggressive driver and will track the car at a few DE's for giggles, so I don't want it too soft but I also don't want the full track car ride either.

Oh yea, I'm setting the new ride height at RS +5mm........

Other than that, I think I have it under control........

PS; the poll is for our amusement and yes, I voted to tear the interior out & weld in a cage but don't tell my wife

You are starting off w/ a lot of built in understeer w/ that tire combination, 325/575 springs will dial that back and more can be dialed out w/ TRG sways.

it may or may not be enough, but it also depends on what you want.

For some info on spring rates others are using you might want to look here

The stock M030 springs and bars induce understeer with stock 17" wheel sizes (IMHO). I'd go ahead and stick those springs on and see how they do. You can always rebalance by adding an M030 rear bar (for more oversteer) or front bar (for more push). Or both.

Nice ride height choice, but then again I might be biased. (nota a scrape yet)

Sounds pretty good to me. I'd probably go with 285 rear tyres but maybe you can get it turing with the shocks & sways.

ALIGNMENT will have a big difference in balance too. If you stray a little from RS settings for camber and go equal front to back or a little more (negative) in front, that has a big effect on reducing understeer, especially corner-entry understeer that the 993 in stock form has. Go visit Jae Lee at Mirage, he'll do a great job (best in town).

I had terrible understeer at the track in my C4S until I put on the bigger TRG adjustable sways. These bars completely transformed the cars handling to perfectly neutral.. I love the current set up and would highly reccommend it. I have Bilstein HDs and MO30 spring compression.

Thank you for all of your replys and votes.

I have decided to keep the 325's in front, can the 575's and install 450's in the rear and add turbo sway bars F & R. I feel this will give me the most bang for the $ at this time and if I don't like the sways I can change them out without a re-balance and alignment.

By the way, my wife saw the option for turning the car into a track beastie and let me know it was OK to do that, right after the divorce is final....LOL

Thanks again and I'll let you know how it turned out by the end of next week.
