Default Porterfield R4S brake pads..

Any thoughts on these?? I am changing my pads and rotors tomorrow and my new mechanic wants to use the Porterfield R4S pad which is designed for street/track use.
I haven't used em and wanted to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.

I have yet to find a pad that works awesome for BOTH street and track. The ultimate compromise I must admit, chosing pads.

Street, no question, OEM Textars--dusty but quiet
Track, PFC 97 compound works great-- good hard pedal, excellent performance-- very noisy at partial pressure brake use.. Also, they arent too hard on rotors like some of the Pagid pads are (or at least were at one time)

I have found the Porterfield RS4 pads to be very, very dusty and I wore a set out in 400 track miles. I think there are better alternatives out there. I'd probably recommend Pagid RS-19 (yellow) which work great, are relatively easy on the rotor and have good wear characteristics. The only issue with street driving will be the noise.

FWIW, I've had good luck with Ferodo DS2500 pads for street/track in my 360 and 430. Much better fade resistance than stock, some minor squealing, minimal dusting, seem to be pretty easy on rotors.

Hey, where'd that Ferrari guy come from????

Welcome anyway, I've always been a big Ferrari fan.

I've never seen a Ferodo pad for a Porsche though...

Sorry for butting in, I owned Porsches for many, many years, and still have a soft spot. As to the pads, Ferrari just uses Brembos and I thought perhaps the same was true for Porsche.

I agree w/ Geoffry. I'm using Pagid RS-19 (yellow) they work very well hot and are still good cold. They do squeel, roughly the same as Pagid orange.

they don't appear to have the deposition issue that orange has exhibited,

I also have a set of Textars for street use but am too lazy to swap them out most of the time, they are quiet but very dusty.

There are no track-worthy pads that are good street pads. Just swap them out, it's a 20 minute job.

i have the porterfield pads in my car. i've been very happy with them and observed the following:

- brake better than oem
- less dust
- more noise than oem. oem's have no nosie. i put them in with the spiders and most of the time i get no noise. on occassion i do get a loud piggy noise.
- they are not good enough for hard track duty in that the pagid's do stop better. they aren't bad with fading...
