Default Help cel

Driving to work today and cel came on here are the cicumstances
1)techron additive one tank ago
2)29k car burns almost no oil less than 1 q per 3k miles
3)car had bmc air filter and motorsound airbox which i changed last nite to fabspeed lid and oem paper filter.
4)Drove car last nite for 50 miles after installing lid and filter
5)Car was low on gas today Fuel lite was on for about 15-20 miles and cel came on after long on ramp

Did the car missfire due to low gas and how can i reset the cel?

Well, it is a crap shoot to guess what the CEL code is without an OBD-2 reader. So you will need to an OBD-2 reader hooked up and pull the error code number to see what it is, and also to reset it too.

Post the error code on the board after you find out and we can take it to the next step.

Since you just put gas in the car, could be that the engine was running when you added the fuel? Or your gas cap is not closed on correctly?

You can only reset the CEL with an OBD-2 reader that allows you to reset the light. If it is indeed caused by the gas cap, then after you fix the problem it should reset itself after several driving cycles. (most likely couple of days)

I recently picked up a OBD2 reader from Kragens for $100 (after $30 rebate). Its made by INNOVA, easy to use. Just a happy customer blah, blah blah..

My CEL had come on recently and the code reader tells me its a P0154 error, something to do with bank 2 sensor 2 O2 sensor circuit, and idea where this guy is located?

Sounds like you have a O2 sensor going out.

P0154 = O2 sensor circuit no activity detected (Bank 2 sensor 1)

Bank 1 contains cylinder 1
Bank 2 is the opposing bank
bank 1 is the driver's side
and sensor 2 is the one after the cat

Thanks Robin..

So just to clarify the code states:

P0154 = O2 sensor circuit no activity detected (Bank 2 sensor 1)

and as you mention bank 2 is the passenger side, and if sensor 2 is after the cat then can I assume sensor 1 is before the cat?

came home tonight disconnected the battery for five minutes no cel now. The guys at pep boys said that they did not have the adapter to plug into my porsche. Does anyone think that this has to do with the fabspeed air box cover? or maybe i just pushed the fuel reserve too far?

It's a universal OBDII connector. Fits any OBDII compliant car.

Go to Autozone, they will loan you a reader for free. Just don't listen to their advice on the codes - you need the Porsche list...

There are several "non-critical" items that will reset when you disconnect the battery. For example, gas cap, secondary air injection, and....... But will come back on if the error is detected again, sometime not on the first error detection, some devices require couple of continue triggers in order for them to be set off.

Drive around for couple of days and let us know if the light come back on.... What you did was not really kosher, as now we don't know exactly what set off the light. Also since you disconnected the battery, your rediness code is now set to not ready, if you need to do a SMOG soon you will not pass.

Yeeehaaa!...That there some quality mechanics workin at dem darePep Boys......Go to Autozone, they will hook it up for free and it is a generic OBDII connector, so they can read your codes...or you can spend $100.00 and buy one yourself at Autozone and read and reset the codes yourself when the CEL comes on. The CEL coming on is part of owning a 993, it is guaranteed to be part of your 993 experience as the CEL tripping on 993 is a part of the 993's character...or you can take it to an authorized Porsche mechanic to diagnose the codes. The first couple of times my CEL came on I took it to an authorized shop and they charged $75.00 to read the code and reset it, after seeing that my car was ok. After taking it to the shop a couple of times and having another 993 owner telling me what I am telling you, I purchased my own ODBII reader from Autozone for $100 or the price of one reset at the shop. I then got the codes specific to the 993 as they suggested above. It use to bug me, but now I think of it as part of the 993 character...

Yes, the code is now erased.

Here is how you can get your rediness code back http://p-car.com/technical/readiness.html
