Default Tire Flatspotting?

I have 18' Pirelli Asimmetrico tires on Trixie and have noticed that when the car sits for more than 10 - 14 days, I get a flatspot shimmy on the highway for the frist couople of miles. Once they heat up a little bit, the flatspots abolish. Is this normal? Do other brands do this as well? Are specific tire brands more susceptable to flatspotting? Just wondering!

My Bridgestone SO3's do the same thing in even less days (7 days). Gives me a good reason to take the car on the freeway for a good run

You might want to put a piece of rug under each wheel, it stops the flattening.

My Pilot Sports flatten out in about 4 days. I would assume that the softer the tire, the faster the flattening....I am sure that it also has to do with overall tire construction as well. Can any tire "engineer" chime in here and set us speculators straight?

another trick is to overinflate if they will sit for a while (I have my car sit over winter on 45lbs inflated tires and it eliminates flat spots).. BUT MAKE SURE YOU REMEMBER to let the air out BEFORE you drive away because you risk a blowout if you drive on them with that much pressure (I leave myself a post-it note on the steering wheel reminding me to let air out back to stock and all is good)

My street tires do the same thing, despite being on carpet.

I don't know a tire worth putting on a 993 that won't eventually flat spot with sitting. I agree with the carpet samples for the short term and over-inflation for the long term (I put the visor down to remind myself.....comes from my experience with 356s, where many put the passenger visor down to remember that they have switched to the reserve gas..)

I lost a new set of tyres on a previous 911 where I had to park the car up for a few months and my brother forgot his promise to move it every so often. :-(

Has anyone tried the tire cradles as opposed to carpet? Are they effective in eleminating flat spotting?

I use them.... doesn't seem to help much if you leave more than a week during the summer (sorry)

It's not that big a deal. DRIVE the car! It should disappear in less than 5 miles.

I find if let car sit for about 30 days even with recommended inflation. the tires are fine once it is driven a few miles and they get warmed up. I park tires over 3/4" plywood with floor mats on top. It works fine and seems to reduce flat spots while sitting. If store for longer than 30 days, I move car a a foot or two every few weeks, inflate 15 psi over recommended pressure, and it been fine over the years with Conti's, Bridgestone, Pirelli Asimmetrico, and now Russo's.
