Default The climax is very near! **updated with new progress!!**

Weeelll paint work has finally started on my Targa. First shot is the painting of the famous Targa top...

I thought since the upper lip of the body has to be painted, and the rear quarters were dinged up........lets do the entire rear of the car!

Both rear hips were marked up even with the stone guards......

And the $$$ factory RS tail...

Ahhhh, paint is laid down. Even without any polishing it looks pretty good...and it will be nice to get rid of all the scratches around the door handles...why does Porsche design it so fingernails scratch the paint everytime the doors are opened??

Boris (the owner of the shop) got a bit carried away...he did not like the doors so he did those as well as the handles, rockers, ......

Next steps? Boris will polish the car up, there is more paint yet (front splitters, ducts, top of the windshield) and then its off to getting the roof mounted.....

Stay posted...the end is near!

Cheers,

Mike

Time to put clear 3m tape arond the door handles before they are reassembled.

That should fix your quirk.

Actually, that is me in the hat in the second picture!

Just kidding..I did strip the car, remove the roof and do some prep. Unfortunately I don't have a good paint booth nor the experience to lay down that pain "just so"...so I have to defer to the pros on this one. However, I am there daily and am right in the thick of it. Boris is pretty good about that and takes the time to talk and explain what is going on. I definitely am running the roof install though....likely next week!

Cheers,

Mike

Are you thinking the the door handles or the surface of the door that is behind the handle? Its the door surface that I find gets scratched, you know the indentation behind the handle. I will talk to the 3M guy about covering it since he is replacing the stone guards on the rear quarters anyways.

Thanks!

Cheers,

Mike

Mike - Very cool! What's the timeframe from here?

FYI...you can get those little plastic protection pieces for behind the door handle. I have some on mine and they keep it from getting scratched. But, just a suggestion, I'd go with Venture Tape brand. It won't yellow like 3M will, and it's much stronger. PM Premiere Mobile and see if they can help you out with those pieces. Sam has the stone guards, too. Genuine Porsche Part on those pieces is way higher than it should be.

Congrats on making such progress on your car. It'll be better than new!!

Mike, glad to hear that everything is nearing completion. You will have a beautiful, nearly-new car when you are done. Take lots of pics of the roof install- I would love to see how it all goes back together. Cheers
