Porsche vs Punks

Hi Mike
I live near you in Sunrise Plantation. South Florida has more kids with with Jap cars than anywhere.
These kids stick a ton of money in them and some are very fast.
You never see the fast ones try to race you but anyone with a Honda, Toyota, Accura, Nissan
and Corvette always seem to have a problem with Porsches.
I find more sportbikes try to race me all the time.
We were all kids once and I know I was much worse. Chris

I fell victim to one several year ago in my former C4S.
An exit ramp onto an empty highway start the chase - him behind me. I let him pull even and then the race was one. I think it was a tricked out Acura and damn if he didn't keep pace with me up to 140. He pulled ahead as I got scared when we rapdily approached a few cars - that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Yeah, just bugs me. I'm glad I'm not alone in the frustration. I wish these A-holes would pull this crap when I'm on my bike.
Thanks for comiserating with me.

This happens to me quite often. I resist the urge by remembering that horsepower (if they have it) is only 1/3 of the equation. I just focus on the fact that if they were to follow me through some curves, 99% of those punks couldn't keep up with the handling or braking aspects of my car.

Happens all the time.
I ignore them. Eventually they go on. Tailgaiting is another issue. That I don't tolerate especially when my kids are with me. I will typically change lanes. If they follow, I slow down whip out the cell phone and make it obvious to them what's about to happen. Without fail they've tucked their tail and moved on very quickly.

i must say I am guilty of taking exit ramps at 65mph and have heard terrible squeeling behind me and even saw an SUV go off the road on the exit (ooops).. now I wasn't racing and I surely didn't ask them to follow me so close in the right lane much less try to keep up with me on the exit ramp

You don't have to go 110 to show up a Jeep or a Passat or something similar. In my experience, it is SUV drivers who seem to want to drag from a stoplight...Durango drivers seem unable to resist reminding you that they "got a Hemi".
The thing to remember is your torque peak is coming on quite a bit higher than theirs. From a stoplight, your typical Durango-esque monster will stay even or pull slightly ahead until about 20mph, at which point you will surge forward as you get into the sweet spot...while they are on the fastly declining part of the curve. Further, around 25mph they will shift (or their auto will do it for them) while you pull in a flash to around 35mph. At this point, I shift into 2nd and don't get back on the gas. Here the speed limit is usually 30, which I will drop back to. Your racing companion will almost invariably roar past you at 45 or 50, proving something I'm sure. It hasn't happened yet, but my dream is the day they drive right past a waiting traffic patrolman...
