Classic car evening drive with a friend. These are among the two nicest 90's cars (imho).

That 996 is gorgeous. They are really coming in to their own. Love the color.

It still amazes me that the follow up to our beloved 993 was the 996. Sorry, it's ugly.

No need to apologize, it's just your opinion and doesn't make you right or wrong, that's the beauty of, er, beauty. It's in the eye of the beholder.

indeed! I hope 996s find their niche or passion. Similarly to what 964s are going through (went through?).

You know, I think it's beginning to happen. The 996 is pretty much the last truly analogue 911. As a driving experience it's special, particularly the sportier models. The Turbo is a genuine supercar but without all the interfering ECU driving aids you get now.

The 996 hits me with such a strong feeling of nostalgia, especially the interior with its honest switch gear, orange glow instruments, and swoopy design elements. Harkens back to simpler times. Nothing about it seems contrived.

Agreed, apart from the sticky switches, the swoopy design lines, the fried egg headlights, the press-fit fit engine assembly and the radiator.. Definitely nothing else is contrived. ;-)

I have to say, I like hearing passion and respect towards 996. Not my bag, but respect. Maybe there is something hidden about 996 that is truly special. Some points mentioned above already are more than I've heard. If it is a great car, great! But sweet Jesus. Did they have to make it look so ugly? Ahh, caught myself!!

It's July 2001. Your BlackBerry chimes with an invite to lunchtime drinks. Mariah Carey is on the radio. "Global warming" is a feature of your new convection oven. Gas is $1.30 per gallon. Soft touch moulded plastic is the epitome of interior luxury. You hop in your unashamedly ugly 996 and you're off. Life is good.
