Jetta, Lexus, Golf, Civic, Prius, Subaru, Audi... Dozens of cars and not a single US model mentioned. Not one. What a shame. No wonder GM and Ford are in such a mess. Serious indictment of the US auto industry from people who know about cars...

How about a Saturn Sky or Pontiac's version Solstice? They both look very nice and the price is about $20K Chris

My 19 year old son would love an S40 -- I think there's a turbo available in that model as well.
Your daughters a lucky gal.

for what it's worth, I started both my daughters with a 1951 dodge - they did body work, brakes, timing chain, etc - both learned a lot on that car. then when each got to second year of college, I bought them each a 944 - price is good now for 944, it's a relaible car, and they had enough skills to keep them going with modest inputs from me (like help changing clutch). This is a LOT cheaper than buying some newer car, and they get a much better car.
