Default M030 vs M033

Though I'm in the UK, I have a US spec 993 C2 which still has it's original supension fitted, including the "SUV" US spec ride height. Naturally this needs to be remedied, but I'm unsure as to the best way to go.

The options (from Carnewal at least) seem to be M030 or M033, and OE or Bilstein HD? Budget IS a concern here, so I'm after advice as to whether or not it's really worth more than double the price for the Bilsteins, and (bearing in mind I don't plan to do much if anything by way of trackdays) whether the 030 option is too solid for road use in the UK.

I'd welcome anyone's thoughts, advice or experience, or suggestions for options I haven't discovered/considered!

Many thanks,

Andrew.

MO30 VS. M033: if M030 is survivable through the western PA tank traps called "roads", should be OK in UK.

If you want the car lower, but the same stock ride compliance (softness/comfort), then the MO33 is the right one for you. If you want a slightly more "sporty" ride compliance to compliment the lower stance, then go with the ROW MO30. If I was going to pay for new springs no matter what, I'd go MO30.

However, be careful that you are not buying the Porsche shocks in the package. They are of the same quality they were 10 years ago--they will last about 25k miles (generally speaking, there are cases where they have lasted longer) and you will have to replace the shocks again. I would suggest getting the Bilstein HD shocks. I'd also recommend installing them yourself (see link in my signature) if you want to save money--it's not that hard and is actually kind of fun.

The Bilstein HD are worth it. Mine have about 70K on them, and still work fine. Also, I believe they are rebuildable if you check with Gert.

Rebuilding the shocks may be somewhat useful.... but, one has to have the car jacked up, the shocks sent to Bilstein to "check them out". Then have 'em rebuilt..... and sent back.

How long do you think this will take? And, if one does not have dollies or some other manner of keeping the P-car in the air, how much do you think this will cost? Forgetaboutit...

Here's my take. Buy the ENTIRE kit from Gert. It's well worth it. I have the M030s, HD Bilsteins, bigger sways and the FPB.... pricey. And, the install was pretty pricey as well.

But.... I love the way my car looks, rides and corners. The car was nearly transformed and I only had like 28K on the original suspension. It was crap.

I'd save my coins and bottle redemption money and buy the whole kit from Gert. The M030s are certainly NOT too stiff.... my car rides better with them.

Check the old threads regarding this question. Tons of information and photogs, too.

Yep - definitely go with the Bilsteins. In fact, they are slightly less expensive than the factory replacements (via Gert). So in the long run, you save and have a better suspension.

I second bagger's comments, go for the whole enchilada from Gert, MO30, Bilsteins and bars, also get the front protection bar. I only wish I had done this 3 years ago and not waited so long.

A fellow Rennlister, Gabi, was kind enough to take me for a spin in his M033 and Bilstein HD equiped 993, had a very plush ride, perfect for UK roads imho. If you are doing track days, maybe go for the M030 springs.

Did you say "plush" and "993" in the same sentence? Yikes!!!! That's just not right.

Just kidding around.
