Default Carrera 4 = Wide Body? Wheel Questions too...

I just bought a '95 Carrera 4. I thought if it wasn't an "S" it is a narrow body, but I had a shop tell me that because it is a "4", it IS a widebody. Which is it?

Also, what wheel offsets should I be looking for? And is there any reason not to go with a 19" wheel on a 993? Or should I stick with a 18"?

Lastly, My car was built 5/95 and is late enough not to have the basket handle. Do I still need to get the steering rack reinforcements? What do I look for?

Thanks guys!
Matt

1995 model C4's are all NB cars. The "S" cars with the WB were after 1995. 18's are fine IMHO some do 19" and they look good as well. Pull the front cover off (under the car) You probably need the steering rack brace if your car didn't come with 18". You can get the brace at www.carnewal.com.

All IMHO others may and will chime in.

Agree with above; find a new shop. A few guys put 19" wheels on, but I'm not a fan for a number of reasons, including the added weight, tire selection, looks, and propensity to get bent from potholes. Yes, you'll need the steering rack brace with 18" wheels.

You want 18" ET52 front and 18"x10 ET65 rear. In the rear, you can go down to ET56 or so, but you'll be a bit limited on tire width (265 max) or amount you can lower the car since ET56 would stick out 9mm more than they should.

i have a MY96 4 and it is not a WB...so, no matter the year, a C4 is a C4 and not a C4S.

As others have recommended, RUN to another shop !

Their answer has given away their complete lack of BASIC Porsche knowledge.

Plus there are cabs and targas of all years, and many of them are C4 but NONE of them are widebodies.

Actually I don't think they did. I think I was wrong about that, but I'm not sure. They certainly made C4 cabs.

a MY95 C4 targa with the targa top updated to MY98 would be the coolest 993 ever! no sai issues, no leaking top issues and AWD...i want one!
