Most 4x4 boards dont recommend K&N. Put a dabb of vasiline on the back of the paper element and K&N and compare. I have heard that the dust on the back of the K&N is scary....
With that said, I have a K&N on my 993 and all other cars. I have not noticed a difference in fuel economy or power on any of my cars. Unfortunately, I bought them before educating myself on the K&N. I'm a sad victim of marketing.... I have not bothered going back to paper on the 993. Maybe I will change it when I have to order new pollen filters. Man those get dirty iin a hurry!!
Thanks Alex, now if I drill 1/2" holes all over the PepBoys element would it sound better? Would I actually notice a .02% increase in HP?
Or should I go back to the Fram. Chris
Paper filter for me. I'm more concerned about clean air and getting another 10,000 miles out of my engine rather than another 3 hp (if I even get it).
And I watched a friend of mine struggle for about 10 minutes trying to replace his airbox cover with a K&N (do we really need to create another difficult task on this car?)
In consideration of the clutch housing venting connected to the upstream side of the airfilter... I do not want any crap from that to find its way in the intake. Porker original for me!!
Need help diagnosing my poor gas mileage. I have been experiencing very poor gas mileage for a few months now and have replaced just about all the obvious maintenance parts (distributor caps/rotors, plugs, O2 sensor, air filter), but still no improvement. I am getting about 16 to 17.5 MPG (40% city/ 60% highway combined).
I did the gas pedal CELL check and I’m getting a 1-1-4-3 code (???). Also, all six plugs from the passenger’s side of the car were burning on the lean side (whitish), and the plugs form the driver’s side were burning rich (dark). ???
The guy at Pep Boys swore that I would get 28HP from the K&N.....You mean he lied to me?
Those guys are trained experts in Filters and LED Bulbs. I believed him!
