Default OT: Porsche-powered VW van, cool video

Apologies if this is a repost, but I hadn't seen if before - enjoy...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...&q=993&pl=true

It's mis-labelled as 993 instead of 996-engined.

RUF-tuned engine, 522 HP, and a 0-60 of around 5 seconds. Insane.

Thanks for posting!

I think its just plain stupid. Kinda reminds me of the hummers running around that never see a dirt road. Why in the world would anyone actually want to own one? See the way it cornered - like crap. I hope Porsche did not willingly donate parts to the van. Really dumb. I could see some jackass in Germany roll one due to its lousy center of gravity.

Wild, I have a 1972 micro bus with a 911SC engine, nowhere near that fast but remove the rear seats and the power to weight ratio is about the same as a stock 911SC… a little better. The ride is a little hairy up that high, you sit on the front wheels and “feather” a very large steering wheel.

Would you really?

If you really had your hard earned money on the line to buy a RUF motor in a crappy minivan you would do it???? You would select this piece over another more capable sports car? You cant even argue that you would be comfortable taking a trip in that thing with the seats. You would be laughed at in performance circles and would only impress the soccer moms. I can understand guys putting an older 911 engine in a microbus to improve performance, since they were so lousy stock, but dropping a RUF engine in a new microbus?

Different strokes for different folks, but if I thought you were serious (which I dont think you are) you and 5 others would actually buy this thing. Like someone else said in another thread, you could probably mod a Geo to beat an enzo, but whats the point?

That was me with the Geo comment And I think this is a waste of money too - but at least we can get a little amusement out of someone else's waste of money

Seemed to handle pretty well for what it is. Must be pretty scary hanging the tail out like that when sitting up that high though.

tj90,
Notice I said "take", not "buy". I also added a smilie with my initial response.

Of course I would not blow a stack of money on something like that. But it's neat. And it goes like stink.

Sorry if my posts were a little harsh - I realize that this is one of those fantasy thread / topics. I do want to clarify that I never bashed guys like sonny that retrofit their bus with 911 power - same goes for the 914 guys - they are freaking fast on the track! I would also do the same if I had a microbus.

With that said however - I would not waste a RUF engine in a bus. Could you imagine that thing in a 993 NB. Talk about a sleeper! Of course, the ricer mortals would think thats how all 993s perform!

The guy driving looked like he was inches away from loosing the bus around that corner. Is it good driving or pushing a chassis/tires/rims/design past their design limits? I could see my wife and kids in that thing hanging on for dear life. I would save that kind of hot rodding for a more capable CAR!

I used to own one of those Eurovans. They handle remarkable well for their weight and high center of gravity. Mine was the Camper conversion which probably added another thousand pounds. Coulda used more power...
