Default Heads Up! DME Relay failures......

The guy who bought my TT had his DME relay fail last weekend at a track. Luckily his friend was finished for the day and loaned him the one from his car.
I've now seen this happen to several friends and usually at the track.

So take heed, and carry that spare. They're about $33. from Porsche.....

How do you know when it fails? What are the symptoms? Won't crank, won't run. etc.?

It will crank but won't run. Or you can have erratic running problems but usually engine just dies.

I changed mine (years ago) with the 993 part and put the old part (that still worked) in the glovebox.

$25 at Sunset with the Excellence discount (cost + 15% + actual shipping).

When I got my new one, I installed it and put the older one (still working) in the box as my backup.

My mechanic said if it fails just pull it out and bounce it on the ground once then reinstall.

I bot a new one for the glove box just in case this highly technical manoever (like the bucking bronco seat un-jam technique) doesn't work.

944.615.227.00 was the part number used at least through MY96 (at some point after that the 944 was changed to a 993)

I posted this question on other similar threads without response:

Is anyone experiencing failure of the 993. part no. dme, or just the earlier 944. part no?

Actually, two people replied in the affirmative to that thread you posted.

Yes, 993 p/n DME relays can fail too.
