"Really, then you must not have a real Porsche because it worked on my 97 CAB.

Or it could be a user error."

Or it could be because thats just the way that my car is.

PS: Why the personal sort of attack? Shows your lack of class. I was just stating a fact with my post.

Man... this IS a tough crowd. Give the new user a break... the immobilizer is not exactly user friendly... many long-time 993 owners still lock/unlock their windows in order to start their cars. And perhaps the 97 that doesn't restart with the key left in the ignition has a flaw in the circuit?

Maybe... I dont know. All Im saying is that I tried to see if that worked and it doesnt work on my car. Doesnt really matter much to me either way.

It is a tough crowd...but a lot of Porsche owners are A-holes...so maybe this should be expected to some degree....for example the guy in the Gayman S who came within 4 inches of blindsiding me by cutting me off yesterday in traffic on the 405. Had it not been for the superior braking ability of my 993, then the Gayman would have clipped my front end.

Default Thank You all for your help.

I had my first Porsche back in 1985. It was a 1985 Carrera Coupe which I bought from a guy who had brought it from Germany. As I recall , it had the same immobilizer key.

After leaving the US, I bought a UK Ford Cosworth RS. It too had the similar type of immobilizer system.

Yes , my 993 is a European model. I guess most Euro cars come with that type of immobilizer key.

Enough with this immobilizer issue. I thank everyone in this forum for trying to help.

Peace.

My 96 993 is a UK model and it has the same immobilizer system Sonic dB is referring to. When I purchased the car the previous owner had 'lost' one, the car comes with a spare. I went to the dealer with the immobilizer and they were able to supply a new one so I now have a spare.

Thumbs up Thanks Greg.

Knowing that you could go to a Porsche dealer and get a replacement is a great relieved.

Thanks.

Don't wait until you lose it to go to the dealer, they'll need the one you have to copy the codes. Get one now and put it away somewhere safe.

That's good advice. I think the confusion in this thread explains well the confusion with the immobilizer system. After more than a year with mine I never had figured it out. Good luck 9Nine3

When you get the new one be sure to get a copy of the immobilizer code, a sequence of numbers, and keep it in your important numbers you need to keep. Who knows if those little black boxes will always be available from Porsche. There is also a DIY on programing a new key fob here on Rennlist. BUt I had the dealer reprogram one I had, so if it went wrong I would have some one to yell at.

I don't understand the problems some people have with this system, in the day and age of everything electronic, including toothbrushes & razors, you would think we would be able to turn the immobilizer on & off without an engineering degree but it still seems to be too complex for some.

Mine has always worked as advertised but, the operator(ME), sometimes gets the timing thing wrong and ends up pushing the button multiple times to get it (CAR) to start.

Can it be inconvienient? YES, is it broken? NO

I have 3 of them...one on the keychain, one stowed in the trunk, and a back up at home.

Default Two spares are better than one.

How much does it cost?

I gotta agree with some folks on this board that the immobilizer deal is a real pain. I hate it. Worse thing on the 993 IMO.

What's with this HUGE plastic deal with batteries and buttons that has to be pushed when you get out to buy a Coke, gas up the car, or take a photog? It's really stupid.

I seem to remember someone showing us a DIY (or someone that has a clue) key deal that eliminates the idiotic plastic EGG with multiple buttons here on the board? Perhaps I'm confused.... I often am. But, the system needs to have some why of defeating it and having a smaller profile for our pockets..... "in this day and age" as someone said.

I'm more concerned with my clutch condition than whether my 993 will be stolen. It's a dumb deal and must have a way to reduce the EGG to a key... like nearly every other modern car.

I hope someone can find the link and make us happy.
