Default Wow...why I want a decent stereo...

#1 - I spend 25 minutes each way during my commute to Metro Rail and a fair amount of that time is spent at 5mph or below. A decent stereo would be appreciated (right now I have a Blaupunkt Honolulu, factory door and rear speakers with the little round tweeters and nothing else. Sounds kind of tinny regardless of how you shape the sound)

#2 - When I take the wife out, she cares not about the air cooled coolness going on - she's either petting our Aussie who is lying down in the back or complaining about the tinny radio or both. The only way to appease her is with a chocolate dipped custard from DQ, but then we risk a cabin disaster from melted ice cream and the dog licking it all over the place. (Keep in mind that the one reason I was allowed to get this car was that if Blitz the Aussie would fit in the back. When we first met 10 years ago I had my 84' Carerra and the stereo worked pretty good - so I can't use the excuse that 'they don't make them any better' or otherwise.

I like the idea of those neat little subwoofers that fit under the seats! But should I upgrade my stereo or install an amp or can I get by with my Honolulu and those little under-the-seat woofers? They appear to be self powered so my hopeful thought is that I don't need an amp since my system already favors the high end of the music spectrum. I play a fretless bass in a midlife crisis 60's band so I can appreciate a clear version of "For Your Love" now and then

BTW: for the Administrator, can we get an icon rockin' with a guitar!!! :^)

benjr - I am also interested in seeing more and bigger images. Are those kick-panels the one's from EBay or are they custom? Do they interfere with the dead-pedal? How is the imaging? More info about the dound deadening too - any problem with window travel? Thanks!

Man, all of my go-to smart-alecky material has been used up . But I'll say this..

I used my radio once...to check the traffic on AM! Then I turned it right off.

I will admit that the stereo/non-stereo battle lines must be at least slightly correlated with DD vs. Weekend / Trackers...

Default Larger Pics from Speakerworks Install

Install pics as requested. No problems with space in the doors subs are only 2.25" deep. Notice the protective film put on the car during install. Carpet used for kick panels matches oem carpet very well. They actually have a mold of the kick panels now for other 993s. These are custom not ebay. The imaging is accurate and dead center. I lost the dead pedal however the kicks are sturdy enough for me to lean my foot on.

I used 2 8 inch Kicker RMB-8s
1 pair CDT Audio 5.25 " seperates
1 4 CH Brax X-2400 German built amp These amps are backed with a lifetime warranty !
Pictures are with stock deck I have since added a Alpine CDA-9815 I have Sirrius Sat Radio and plan on adding my IPOD. Alpine has an interface that will control the IPOD plus they also have a Bluetooth module I will add soon

Im sure the Rod Birch sub sounds good but I wouldnt give up the space. The 911 type porsches are a challenge as they dont have a trunk that will transfer sound into the interior of the car. A good install IMO does not alter the oem look of the car or compromise interior space. Im not knocking the guy he seems to offer some good options. If you dont like my setup here are some other Speakerworks Porsche installs.

I liked this previous job so my install was modeled after it.

They are truly the best but you will pay the price compared to a Best Buy chain for a high end shop it is reasonable especially the peace of mind that they are pros.

I just changed my stock Blaupunkt speakers in the cab to a set of 5&1/4" Rockford Fosgate speakers with new tweeter with independent crossovers for the front and JBL 4" speakers with mini crossovers (hidden under the seats) and the difference that has made to the sound is quite amazing. So I did not have to get a subwoofer etc to get decent sound.

Mine sits in the back seat seatbelted in with the amps mounted in the trunk. This does 2 things:

1. Keeps me from having to drive with a full car (-1 seat)
2. Allows me to unseatbelt, and unplug the sub when I go to the track (theres your weight deal)

I really dosent look tacky since mine is a cab driven with the top down 99% of the time, (Thank god for California) you can't see it under the wind deflector.
