Default lien check

Quick question (I think)

How do I know/check if a car has a lien or other claims attached to it? In BC I just go to our government sponsored insurance company. Not sure what the procedure is in the US.

Oh, also - if there is a lien, how do I make sure it has been removed?

Thanks!

Steve

It shows "Loan or lien reported" - I'm assuming that's when a lien is registered/attached. Does it also show when it's been removed?

Hi Steve,

Does the carfax tell you whcih state? You can then contact the state and maybe find out more...

Good luck!

Cheers,

Title history should show status of lien.

Do you have the title in-hand?

If the seller has a Title, then I don't think there can be lien (at least from a financing standpoint).

While this is usually true, it's not absolutly true.

I don't have the title in hand right now - I'm just trying to get prepared for a possible transaction.

the regisration will always show a legal leinholder. call the bank on the regisration, and give them the social security# of the registered owner, and theres your payoff
