Only trouble is, by the time you wait for it to go in, the engine is spinning too slowly to match revs without getting on the gas a bit.

definately. throttle modulation is a must- i've found. it all amounts to the porsche driving experience. i found it difficult to drive my car well for several weeks, if not months after purchase. it took some time to get 'really' comfortable with the gearbox & throttle. now that i'm comfortable- it's quite nice. but for those who borrow the car or give it a quick go, i have to give a quick "be easy on my gearbox" lecture before they're off. doesn't shift like a civic.

Now the blipping on th e upshift is interesting...I do not at all. I feel the syncros as they line up and then it slips very easily into gear. But...the revs do not fall off; it is perfect for the next gear. This doesn't sound like a fast shift deal...more like worn syncros.

Hmmm

Sorry, old thread, but as a new manual 993 owner I've also noticed the slight notchniess from 2nd to 3rd. If I shift slowly, it's usually not there, but quick shifts can generate the gear meshing sensation. Good to know -- sort of -- that's it's 'normal'.

I just had my 968 fixed for a similar issue (same tranny). Pointer: If you have to replace the synchro hub, order from Sunset and have them look up the part number under Audi - it's half the price.

No notchiness from 2nd > 3rd.

Notchy first shift or two after cold start from 1st > 2nd

Default shifting

I've had my '96 for a couple of months now and am still working on shifting it smoothly. It does require a "deliberate" technique.

There is an adjustment eccentric on the forward left side of the G65/G50 case that impinges on the primary shift rod: it is my supposition that its function is to affect the shift quality ..... but I cannot advise on the correct adjustment technique. When reassembling my spare, the trans was bolted to a shifter assembly, and I played with the eccentric until the shifts " felt right" ..... that's as scientific as it got!

Perhaps someone capable can advise if any of this is meaningful ......
