'81 Datsun 280Z Turbo.
Got it from my dad when he bought a then-brand-new '91 Nissan Z.

Turbo definitely made things more exciting.

1985 Nissan 300ZX Turbo... much quicker than my 944 in a straight line, but the thing handled like a boat...

My first was a'72 MGB in college. I year later I got my first of 3 TVRs. That was back in the days when you could get great cars for under $5,000 (preowned).

I loved British cars. Always wanted a TR3 and still search for them -- the reality might not be as good as the fantasy however.

'85 RX-7 with the old 12A engine. Only the front brakes worked, I had to top up the brake fluid every morning before going to school, and sometimes it didn't start. But it was my first car, so it was all good to me.

1st car at 16 in high school, 1974 Sabb Sonnett III
Way slow in a stright line with a 4 banger, moved up to...

2nd car at 18, 1969 Ponitac GTO convertable 400 ci V8, ram air, posi traction.....
No way was this a sports car, scarry at speed and couldn't go around corners, no handling at all

3rd car, 1975 Porsche 914, too slow in a stright line but great handling

4th car, 1996 993, finally got it right.

Variety of SUV's and grocery getters along the way.....

1973 VW Beetle 1302S - first car (and the next 2 too!). Funny how, years later I came back to the floor mounted pedals and the air cooled engine in th back - must ave been fate!

Actually the first sporting car I had was mid 80's (dont remember the year!) Mk 1 VW Scirocco - had a red interior and sat nice and low.

1973 Toyota Celica ST

125,000 miles on the clock when I sold it, but it was still going strong. Many cross country trips. Sweet memory...

1958 Bug-eyed Sprite. That makes three of us in this thread. It was the 48hp model. I once took it to the San Fernando drag strip, where I was matched up with a 36HP VW bug. The drag race took about 45 seconds, and I got beat! That cheater!

My first car (that I shared with my brother) that we bought in 1972 with our paper route money was a henna red 1969 383 3 speed Plymouth Roadrunner. I wouldn't exactly consider that car a sports car but it was fun and fast in a straight line. When I bought my first car new a few years later (during the 1974 fuel crisis) I bought a bright orange Toyota Corolla SR5 coupe for $3232, complete with factory bolt on fender flares and 1.6 hemi engine - it was the first US import car IIRC sold with a 5 speed. After a catastrophic collision in Newark NJ with a dump truck - the Toyota was replaced with a real sports car - thanks to the pain and suffering settlement - a dark metalic green 1977 280Z.

My first true sports car was a metallic black manual 1991 Nissan Twin Turbo. I upgraded with brambo brakes, and Stillen upgrades to over 400hp. Nice car, until a valet hit a light pole with it. Once repaired, it was never the same. Purchased a Linen Gray Metallic 89' Porsche C4 with Linen interior. Been a Porsche guy ever sence...I did have a Merkur XR4ti before the Nissan, with a few mods.
