Default WWYD? (Front Strut Brace)

A good friend and knowledgable p-car guy suggested that a front strut brace would be a nice inexpensive mod.

Those of you who know, would you go with the Carnewal "Strut Tower Brace For P93" (I think that this is a Porsche OEM part) or the "964 / 993 Strut bar" from 911chips (http://www.911chips.com/C2strut.htm)?

Are there others that I should consider?

Will I notice much of an improvement with this installed? FWIW I also have the steering rack brace installed on my car, which is a '95 with 18" wheels.

Thanks!

Jim

I've wanted to do this upgrade for some time, as I autocross my car, I'm sure I'd stand to benefit as well.

My intial feeling was to go with the OEM brace, but at nearly $300, its hard to justify. Although I havn't ordered one yet, the 911Chips had already caught my eye from a previous post. I think its has a factory look in addition to appearing to be well made and light to boot.

Havn't made the plunge yet, but I'd lean strongly towards the 911chips model. I don't think its worth the extra $100 just to say it's OEM.

That 911chips bar is very light... plus they mention it has a very thin mounting base to allow for the short threaded studs on our cars. I like what I see, I think that's a good option - anyone had experience with this strut brace?

I went with the Rennline brace for my car, 96, 18" wheels. I made very two small cuts in the boot liner to pass the brace through. It looks nice. I had a slight creaking noise as the car flexed over short diagonal dips in the road. That went away after putting in the brace. I am happy!!!

Vertex (a sponsor) has these on sale for $119 and they fit under the carpet. I noticed some of the creaks that I had went away after install:

I'd go with OEM GT2 bar, I bet that's even lighter than this one.

I have OEM RS bar (the one you mention from Gert) and that's just fine to use with OEM bolts & nuts. It is bout 9 ounces heavier than this one though.

Do a search in the 964 forum here or on the Pelican boards for RUF Strut Brace. Someone posted some pics for me so I could see what type of nuts I needed. I picked a RUF Brace olast fall off of eBay and it didn't have an instrution sheet or anything. Turns out you need valve cover nuts of two lengths. It seems really light to me, but then my other experience was a Weltmiester Brace for my 944 Cab.

Where did you get the steering rack brace?

GT2 replica from Fabspeed, as Gert does not sell them anymore. My next choice would be the RUF bar, then the OEM cup bar.

The RUF brace is beautifully designed. The pics on their site are not clear enough to post, but I think I have one that I found on the 964 Board. The pricing is a bit on the steep side at $319 + shipping, but it's one hell of a robust design.

The GT2 replica (Matter copy) is still my first choice, so I'm trying to hold out until Gert finds a new manufacturer. The Fabspeed version, from what I have read, had quite a few fitment issues.

Here is a pic posted by Patrick L on the 964 Board:

I have the 911 Chips brace and am very very happy with the quality and construction. It is modeled after the factory RS Brace (made now by FVD, I believe) and is quite light, only 1Lb, 10Oz. Here's a full picture:

A close up of the machined end:

Highly Recommended.

The Porsche & Ruf braces are beautiful, but if you're on a budget the KLA is a great value. Probably works just as well, too.
