[QUOTE=brucec59]Anybody tried this fix? http://p-car.com/diy/clockrepair/

Tried that, resoldered every solder joint on the PC board in the clock, no joy...

For those that have 1996 993s, I saw this write up on a recall for horn relays and airbag lights. The voltage peaks on the earlier horn relays can trip the airbag light. Hope someone can solve their problem with this info. Mine went to the dealer this morning.

1996 PORSCHE 911 Recall ID from NHTSA: 98V089001
Auto Recall Date: 19981127
Vehicle Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Estimated Vehicles Affected: 1968
1996 PORSCHE 911 Defect Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSSENGER VEHICLES. INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG CAN OCCUR.
Defect Consequence:
DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG WITHOUT WARNING COULD CAUSE A DRIVER TO LOSE VEHICLE CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH AND PERSONAL INJURY.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND A SPECIAL FILTER HORN RELAY WILL BE INSTALLED THAT PROTECTS THE AIR BAG UNIT FROM VOLTAGE PEAKS.
Notes: PORSCHE CARS N.A. INC.,

Just did a google search when I was trying to find symptoms for airbag cel, so my guess may be it was a Porsche recall deal.

I want to do it, but I need to fix my horn problem first, in case that has anything to do with it. My horn blows constantly (well, if I put the relay in). There's something wrong with the horn pad in the steering wheel.
Bruce - do a search using my name dated 2/5/05 (can't figure out how to cut and paste the link). I posted a DIY on how to fix the worn-out rubber grommets on the horn retainer.

I fixed my horn by shoving black pieces of heavy duty velcro strategically between the horn pad and sterring wheel. It works but maybe the DIY rubber grommet repair that slider suggests is more elegant....

Slider: I posted a reply to your DIY so it should be on the top of the list again for anyone that wants to read it. Please see my follow-up ost. I have a question. Thanks for the great DIY, I will try this and get rid of the velcro....

Verdict in. Dealer pulled a hard code 65 - which means my airbag module needs to be replaced. Work will be completed next week but I have learned a lesson I won't soon forget. Beware of battery boosters and use cautiously. Thanks for all your suggestions and comments. Incidentally, another Service Mgr thought I might want to look at the soldering connections on the clock as he knows these can cause the airbag cel to trigger, as described earlier in this thread. Other Mgr was not happy with suggestion and said the tech had checked it and found the code.

Default Update to Air Bag light on '95 993

Got my car back today from the Dealership. As diagnosed, the problem was a faulty airbag control module. This has been replaced with an updated control module - same as is used in the 996. Big surprise! For you detail oriented rennlisters, the new part number is 996-618-217-02 and the unit is then coded and locked to the vehicle type (993). Just FYI, and thanks for all the suggestions and comments. Time to drive!
