They have pre-cut versions for the 993 and 996.

the tear offs will last, their life expectancy so to speak. I can get a windshield installed in SoCal (Factory Glass) for $450...it needs to be replaced every 2 years...in reality, because of the soft German glass, the pits are present within weeks....the glass never looks good except on day one....

At $80 each, and $32 for an "installation kit", it doesn't make sense for me. I get the windshield replaced every 12-18 months, with a cost of my $100 deductible.
These make complete sense for endurance racing, where you want to maintain visibility and save the time needed to replace a windshield during a race.

Tom,
I've run lexan front & rear windscreen in the past and though they saved me a bit of weight they fit poorly and scratched really easy. My experience was they were so scratched after a few months that coming into turn 2 at WSIR became a whole new experience around sunset, kind of the blind leading the blind thing!
If you do install lexan take the time to get down to a pilot/aircraft supply store and use aircraft grade lexan cleaning products, they are at least twice as good as automotive products when it comes to not scratching the surface.

ZP: Thanks for the advice. I talked over the options with the mechanics and decided I'd try the Lexan. Other racers at the shop had gone through 2-3 glass windshields per year and were on year 2 for a Lexan windshield, which still had good visibility out of it. We'll see how my experience goes...
