i would love to have better english for the next story about valet parking , valet guys and so ...

well .. more or less is as follows ... use your imagination ...

once in a restaurant i saw a 19 y. old guy JUMPING the sidewalk with a brand new MB in order to save time .. !!

he JUMPED a tall sidewalk with the car at speed to make things faster !!!

(not very good for aligmnt, tires , rims, suspension, transmision, etc .. etc ..)

i preffer to walk 40 minutes to get the restaurant than use valet P since that ...

If valet does not accept a tip for me to park my own car and keep the keys, I either take another car, or go to another establishment.

I usually pay parking rate plus tip in order to park myself...to avoid causing offense to the valet, I always state that "right now" I have a problematical tranny on reverse gear. It has been working so far...with the 356 it was piece of cake as I could even take the car to the table with me if I wanted!!!

Even without a teenager abusing or crashing the car, I'm neurotic about door dents, since our cars do not have body side mouldings. The valets park so close and swing open doors for SUVs and other cars with reckless abandon. That little dent and/or paint chip in the side of my 993 makes me crazy....and I usually don't see it until the next time I wash the car. It's the same reason I park way out or at an angle in shopping malls and parking lots.

Parking way out works, but almost nobody does the "angle park" around here any longer.....since it became a form of self-selection for a complete "keying" of the vehicle a while back.

Tried it once, but when the guy asked, "where's the clutch?", I quickly decided to park myself. Mine's a tip but with a shifter boot so looks like a stick; no indicator plate for gear selection.

I suspect they'd get confused with the double pump of the remote (if they didn't lock the car) in order to start anyway.

Not me, I always tip when I feel I should and park it in front myself or if I know I'm gong to the City to a restuarant where I can't control parking I'll take the other car. I'll admit I often pick restaurants less for the food and service as for the parking.

I don't use valet parking. Not because I'm worried about the car, but because I'm a cheap sob! I'll walk an extra three blocks to avoid a parking meter! So, there's no way I'm gonna pay someone for the privilage of parking my car. Downtown parking garages are an exception, but I try to avoid those, too, if I can.

Nope. Never have. In NYC I know of a few "park it yourself" lots that I can use. Thats the only way I'll drive in.

At the few resturaunts here in Atlanta that that we frequent that also offer valet they always put my car right up front. A lot of the time they just tell me to leave it in front and lock it. I always leave a nice tip when it gets to stay up front and safe.
