Default RSR in RoW: NEW PROCEDURE

First of all, let me point out that this only counts for the Rest Of the World, not for the USA.

Due to some individuals that abused the free test period of 3 weeks or used the RSR’s as an alternative to replace their damaged mufflers, I am forced to change the procedure of the RSR.

Before, one received a set of RSR mufflers, tested them and after 3 weeks he shipped back his original mufflers and the payment was arranged.

The crude reality of the past months is that some people shipped me back repaired, modified, accident damaged or even send me tired mufflers from '93 knowing their car was a '98 garage queen.
Hell we even have some that kept the RSR and never returned their original mufflers (remember my "Reunion" post).
In most of these cases, I had to go and buy other mufflers to use as exchange cores.
Another issue that needed to be solved was that some took the liberty to extend the 3 week test period to 6-10 weeks.

So, what's going to change :

The RSR’s are still being sold on an exchange base and if you don’t want to keep the RSR, it still doesn’t cost you any money.
One still can test them for 3 weeks.

The prices also remain the same:
For Europe, the RSR are 400 Euro shipping and VAT included.
The core charge is 300 Euro VAT included.

The RSR and the cores are now charged on day that the parcel is shipped out to the customer.
If he decides to keep the RSR's and sends back the correct mufflers that are in good shape, the core charge is refunded to his credit card.
If one ships back the RSR, the full amount is refunded.

I hope you'll understand.

Again, this is only for the RoW, not for the US.
Recent conversations with Robin give me reason to believe that he will change his procedure as well in the future but of course, that's his decision.

Thanks,

Gert - It's very unfortunate that a few "customers" abused your generous RSR sales/trial policy - I had previoiusly heard that this happened a few times and I wondered how long the abuse would be tolerated. Your new procedure is more that fair.

Hi guys,

I don't know why the guys on the other side of the pond do this to Gert, Gert is one of the most helpful, honest, and nice guys I know. Most of you guys in the US have been great (Unfortunately I had many issues from Canada). 95% have been really good in sending back the cores and the payment, however sometime I need to throw away some of the cores because they are just in really bad shape, but I know it is not result of anyone's bad intentions.

As you may or may not noticed. Over the years the price of the RSR core exchange went up. Last increase was from $450 o $550, mainly that's the method I used to absorb the bad debt expense caused by dead beats who will not pay or send the cores back.

I am trying very hard to look the other way when I get screwed, I guess that's my way of placing faith and trust in people.

I guess if the situation continues to degrade I will also need to implement some sort of a core charge upfront etc....

You guys have any better ideas?

Hi Robin and Gert,

It's a shame that you are having to take these measures but obviously if deadbeats try to con you with damaged cores you need to absorb these costs. I believe most people would be happy with Gert's proposed new arrangements. I would certainly have no problems with this.

Regards,

David

I was shocked to learn you ship the RSRs before receiving any payment. I don't know anyone else who offers such a trusting arrangement. I think it would be more than fair - indeed it would be expected, generally - for you to do exactly what Gert is now doing. That's the way core charges usually work, after all. Plus you'll save time not needing to chase down deadbeats and hammer them for payment.

Gert & Robin - Your new procedures are more than fair. While disappointing that it had to come to this, I suspect you'll see a higher core return rate with this new "incentive". Thanks for the great products and service you provide

Hi Gert,
I would say that this is entirely reasonable. I know you are not looking for replies but I would like to express support. It was very refreshing to see a buisiness philosophy based on trust and ones word however humans being as they are I am not surprised that you have problems. As you know, I bought your RSRs, tried them and sent back payment with appropriate cores as requested. It was really good to do business this way and it saddens me that others do not respect this. Please continue to provide an excellent service. Good luck.
Hugh.

Robin,
You are a well-respected member of the Rennlist community and I see no reason why you should not implement the changes Gert is implementing. Genuine people will understand where you are coming from. Unfortunately there are lots of immoral people out there who only care about themselves. I think you should protect your interest. Business is business - if you don't protect yourself you will continued to get screwed by the minority who will abuse your trust.

Talking There are always a few...

that screw it up for everyone else. If I ever need to buy another set of RSRs, I will gladly pay the Core Charge up front as well as the cost of the mufflers. Once the cores are returned and are in good shape, I know my core charge would be forthcoming shortly.

Thanks to Gert and Robin for their years of service and support to the Rennlist community.

Robin & Gert -

I agree that it sucks and a shame for a few to frig things up for others . . . but such is life . . . I guess there's just always a few rotten eggs out there. I think the new procedure makes perfect sense.

Only sell to Rennlist members... I'm serious! If they out you, post their names in the forum and let the forum members patrol it's members to "comply" with the sales agreement. Peer pressure works great.

I don't blame either of you for revising your procedures... it's a business, for heavens sake! Best of luck to the both of you and thanks for your support throughout the years!

I like KKim's idea or have them join Rennlist first. Or just charge an extra fee if the cores are damaged. Putting out a list of deadbeats is also a good idea. Or perhaps you could have a system where one would have to have a special exemption to get them free at first trial. If you don't know them or there are no references Gert's new deal is still more than fair. Market conditions caused this, you are just trying to stay in business so others can enjoy your RSR's as we are. We don't want either you or Gert to stop selling them and if this is causing your prices to go up because of the deadbeats then that's not fair to the good majority either so take a deposit make sure it clears then you can stay in business and keep the price where it works for everyone.

My car is so much more fun due to the RSR's I don't want anything to come in the way of you two staying in business. my.02
