Yep . . . a smidge less power at stock . . . 272 hp vs. 285 hp IIRC.
BTW -- the best year for 993? Easy . . . '96 . . . preferably black . . . as the black cars were selected to be fitted with the strongest engines from the factory.

"Everyone" knows that Porsche favors the Silver and White cars. All the of the stronger engines were put in the Silver and White cars. Silver is Germanys national racing color and White is favored among the Pietch and Porsche families.
The 95 is down on power but has OBDI so no CEL issues. Some 95s have a basket handle rear tail light. Otherwise they are the same.

Actaully white is the international color assigned to Germany for racing....ergo the white cars being the fastest....
"Silver" became popular when, in an attempt to get cars to the lightest weight possible, teams ( like Benz and Auto Union) would remove all paint and expose the aluminum body panels on race cars.

having driven both, i disagree that the varioram in 96-98 is not noticeable... while i agree that the difference is not huge, and definitely negligable in terms of acceleration times, when i drove a 95 i could feel a difference in the midrange especially

To the original posters comment:
Best year of the 993 ?? If you can afford it, any year C2S (rarity will keep depreciation at a minimum).... If you're on a budget, the 1995 OBDI 993 is a great bang for the buck IMHO...
My fav would be a under 60K mile late model 1995 (w/o basket handle) C2...
If you're looking at the 95's, check the thread linked below... for additional info search for varioram torque here...
