I'll jump in here too since I just changed to Mobilube SHC. I do not know what was in there before but this stuff performs very well when cold. What a difference!

FYI, Specialty Formulations are no longer producing lubricants. They had moved facilities according to their website and do not know when production may resume...Anyways, I have been driving my Targa all winter here in Ohio (we have clear roads with no snow) and it is shifting just fine at lower temps with the Mobilube SHC. I'll do a Used Oil Analysis in the spring to see how things look in the old gearbox....

Too bad SF closed their doors. I put a gallon or so into the tranny about a month ago and the shifting has imporved significantly especially into second and third gears. Plus the stuff looks good enough to pour over vanilla ice cream and eat. Kind of a raspberry color......ummmm, um. Plus it works.

Lufteknic gave me very good service, delivering in short order and proactively crediting me back some tax that was mischarged on an in-state shipment. The SHC didn't much affect the shifting of my trans for better or for worse, it's still graunchy when cold but does shift nicer when it's really hot. That may just be my trans, I don't know.

Update!!!!

Specialty formulations went out of business, so the serach is on again for another transaxle fluid for our 911s. After reading the recommendations from the previous posts I tried the Mobil Delvac 75W-90 gear lube in my 993, so far after 3 month it is shifting very good, so I am very happy with the results. I used to have slight 2nd gear crunch when it is cold if I don't don't shift, with this new fluid I am able to shift into 2nd gear without any issues. So two thumbs up from me on this gear oil recommendation.

I used the Delvac in my 88 Carrera and it helped immensely. I obtained it from Luftecknic.

I run Swepco 201 with no additives and only have the second gear tightness for about three cold shifts before it smooths out which is long before I get to the freeway and really need my gears.

Also if I just shift slowly for the first few upshifts into 2nd when cold, I get no tightness or crunching......ZP44

I've been running the Mobilube SHC (now Delvac 1) for years and have been very pleased with its performance, even over Redline. I will try Swepco 306 in my G50 for just sake of comparison next year. I stock both Swepco and Delvac 1 so I have ample selection for my own car.

Prior I was running Swepco 201, I like the Delvac better.....

Put some Valvoline Syn in last week...works great so far! Go figure...

The PO of my car had Swepco in the 'box -- I changed all of the fluids in the car after I took over and went with std M1 -- the shifting was much improved cold, not a lot of difference hot.

The specialty oil supplier I use does have a semi synthetic 75W90 extreme pressure for high performance gearboxes, but for LSD's they recommend 80W90L hypoid formulation.

Thing is our diffs are in the box, which always makes it a toss-up.

I'm giving the 75W90 a go. If it doesn't work out I'll change it.
